How workspaces work
Each workspace connected to your Dropbox account remains separate.
- Your individual workspace and each team workspace have their own files, members, permissions, and admin policies.
- Joining another team adds a new workspace to your existing Dropbox account.
- Switching workspaces doesn’t move or merge your files.
How to join an additional team on dropbox.com
If you’re invited to another Dropbox team, you can join it using the email associated with your existing Dropbox account.
- Open the invitation email from the team admin.
- Click Join team.
- Log in with your existing Dropbox account.
- Click Agree and join team.
The new workspace is added to your existing Dropbox account. Your individual workspace and any existing team workspaces remain separate. Joining another team doesn’t create another Dropbox account.
How to switch between workspaces on dropbox.com
If your Dropbox account has access to multiple workspaces:
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click your avatar (photo or initials).
- Click Switch workspaces.
- Select the workspace you want to use.
When you switch workspaces, Dropbox updates the experience to match the selected workspace, including its files, sharing permissions, team membership, and admin policies.
The selected workspace remains active while you continue working in that browser tab.
How workspace context works
Each workspace remains separate. When you switch workspaces:
- You only see the files and folders in that workspace.
- Your actions apply only to that workspace.
- Team permissions and admin policies remain specific to that workspace.
Dropbox keeps your selected workspace active while you navigate within the same browser tab. It doesn’t automatically switch you to another workspace during supported navigation.
Choosing the correct workspace
Some actions require you to choose which workspace to use.
For example, you may be asked which workspace should:
- Receive a shared folder invitation
- Own newly created files and folders
- Complete a sharing action
Selecting the correct workspace keeps your files, content, and permissions associated with the intended workspace.
What happens when your workspace access changes
If you lose access to a workspace or leave a team, you can still access your other workspaces. Depending on the change, you may need to update the email address or other credentials you use to log in. Dropbox will guide you through any required updates.
Your other workspaces aren’t affected and remain separate. Each workspace keeps its own files, permissions, members, and admin settings.
Using Dropbox Sign with multiple workspaces
Dropbox Sign doesn’t currently support multiple workspaces. Dropbox Sign supports one Dropbox Sign account for each email address. If you’re a member of multiple Dropbox teams, some Dropbox Sign features aren’t available from your additional team workspaces.
Sending signature requests
If you try to use Dropbox Sign features, such as Sign yourself or Get signatures, from another team workspace, you’ll be redirected to a page explaining that Dropbox Sign doesn’t yet support multiple team workspaces associated with the same Dropbox account.
Signing documents
You can still sign documents you receive by email, but only for signature requests associated with the Dropbox team workspace connected to your Dropbox Sign account.
Because Dropbox Sign doesn’t recognize your additional team workspaces, a signature request intended for an additional team is sent to the email address associated with the Dropbox account you use with Dropbox Sign. Depending on your organization’s policies, admins for that team workspace may be able to view the request.
Recommended workaround
If you regularly use Dropbox Sign with more than one Dropbox team, create a separate Dropbox Sign account with a different email address for your additional team.
Have signature requests for that team sent to the separate email address. This keeps agreements associated with the correct Dropbox Sign account until Dropbox Sign supports multiple workspaces.
