Why did I receive a warning about cryptographic proof systems?

Dropbox’s mission is to design a more enlightened way of working, which requires creating an environment people can trust. Dropbox is used by millions of people, and we're proud of the trust placed in us. In exchange, we trust you to use our services responsibly. That’s why our Terms of Service, Dropbox Services Agreement, and Acceptable Use Policy describe the types of behavior that are unacceptable while using Dropbox and the remedies for noncompliance. We will not tolerate content or activity that puts our users or service at risk. Dropbox has a highly-trained team dedicated to enforcing our policies and will take swift action when a user has violated them.

Using any Dropbox account for cryptographic proof-of-space, proof-of-storage, or any similar proof system is strictly against Dropbox’s Acceptable Use Policy.  If we determine that your account is being used for any cryptographic proof-of-space,  proof-of-storage, or any similar proof system, we will remove any offending content. We also reserve the right to to suspend your access to Dropbox or terminate your account.

What should I do if I receive a warning?

If you receive a warning while uploading files associated with cryptographic proof-of-space or proof-of-storage, we recommend that you:

  • Remove any existing files associated with crypto mining from your account.

If you receive a warning about files already in your account, we recommend that you:

What should I do if I receive a notice of account termination?

If you receive a notice that your account will be terminated due to crypto mining files in your account, we recommend that you:

  • Move any files from your Dropbox account to another location prior to the termination date.

Can I request a review of my account termination?

If you believe you received a warning or notice in error, reach out to Dropbox support with the following:

  • Details about the warning or notice you received
  • Any proof that there are no files associated with cryptographic proof-of-space, proof-of-storage, or any similar proof system in your account
