Cancel a free trial of the Plus or Professional plan

If you signed up for a free trial of Dropbox Plus or Professional, this article will tell you how to cancel your free trial before it ends so you don’t get charged. If you don’t cancel your free trial before it ends, you’ll be charged for Dropbox Plus or Professional with the billing information you used when you signed up for your free trial.

Note: A free trial is not the same as a Dropbox Basic account, which is also free. Learn how to delete your Dropbox Basic account instead.

Cancel a Dropbox Plus or Professional free trial

If you signed up for your free trial with a phone or tablet (through iTunes or Google Play)

Learn how to cancel your free trial if you signed up with a phone or tablet. 

If you signed up for your free trial on a desktop computer or laptop (through Dropbox)

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your profile picture or face icon in the upper-right corner. 
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the Plan tab. 
  5. Click Manage plan.
  6. Click Cancel trial.
  7. Click I still want to downgrade.
  8. Select the reason why you’re canceling. 
  9. Click I still want to downgrade

You’ll receive an email confirmation that your free trial has been canceled. If you signed up with a credit card, your plan will downgrade at the end of your trial period. If you signed up with PayPal, your trial will end immediately.

Note: Deleting or uninstalling the Dropbox app from your phone or computer doesn’t end your free trial. Canceling the free trial doesn’t delete the Dropbox app from your phone or computer. It just downgrades you to a free Basic account.

Terms of the free trial

When you signed up for your free trial, you received an email from Dropbox with the length and details of your trial. If you don’t see it in your inbox, check your spam folder.

If you cancel your free trial before it expires, you are downgraded at then end of your trial period, or right away, depending on how you originally signed up. If you signed up with a credit card, your plan will downgrade at the end of the trial period. If you signed up with PayPal, your trial will end right away.

After your plan downgrades, you’ll have a free Dropbox Basic account with 2 GBs of storage and all of your files will remain in your Dropbox account. Depending on how much of that storage you’re using, your files may unsync from your computer. 

Check if a free trial is canceled

Once you cancel your Dropbox free trial, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Dropbox. If you don’t see it in your inbox, check your spam folder.

If you got charged for Dropbox Plus or Professional

If your free trial already ended and you started getting charged for Dropbox Plus or Professional, you can downgrade to a free Dropbox Basic account right now by canceling your current subscription. Your Plus or Professional features will be downgraded at the end of your billing cycle, but you won’t lose any of your files and you won’t get charged at your next billing date.

If you’re not sure what type of account you have right now, sign in to dropbox.com and go to https://www.dropbox.com/account/plan.

Refunds

In most cases, Dropbox doesn’t issue refunds. To stop getting charged in the future, cancel your current subscription and downgrade to a free Basic account.
