How to check how much Dropbox storage space is left

This article describes a feature available to customers on Dropbox Plus, Professional, Essentials, Standard, Advanced, Business, or Business Plus plans and to certain types of admins on Dropbox team accounts.

This article explains how to check the amount of storage space you have left in your Dropbox account.

The fastest way to check how much storage space you have left in your Dropbox account is in the Account section of dropbox.com:

How to check your account space

Dropbox Basic, Plus, Professional, and Essentials

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Manage account.
  4. Under Subscriptions, check the storage bar. This shows:
    • Regular files: Space used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Space used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    • Unused space: Space not yet in use.
    • Backup: Space used by Dropbox Backup.
    • Replay: Space used by Dropbox Replay.

Note: If you’re not redirected to Subscriptions, click on the Plan tab.


Dropbox Family

To check your available space:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Click Manage account.
  4. Under Subscriptions, check the storage bar.
  5. Under How much the family is using of the 2 TB, check the storage bar. This shows:
    • Your files
    • Everyone else’s files

       

Dropbox Standard, Business, Advanced, Business Plus, and Enterprise

To check your available space:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Plan.
  5. Check the storage bar. This shows:
    • Regular files: Space used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Space used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    • Unused space: Space not yet in use.
    • Backup: Space used by Dropbox Backup.
    • Replay: Space used by Dropbox Replay.

Note: When your team is using more than 50% of their storage, you’ll see a team storage widget appear in the left sidebar on dropbox.com.


Team admins

If you’re a team admin:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. On the dashboard, check Storage under Team usage.

As a team admin, you can also see your team storage in the left sidebar when you log in to dropbox.com. The team storage widget allows you to check how much storage your team is using, and to take action if your team is running low on space. From the Admin console, you can also see: 

Note: Shared folders that aren’t joined don’t count towards your used space.

How to see the free space you've earned

This section applies to Dropbox Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional users only.

You can earn free space in your Dropbox account by referring your friends, family, and coworkers

 

To see how much space you've already earned, and get more:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
    • If you've connected a personal and work account, select which account you'd like to see settings for.
  4. Click the Refer a friend tab and scroll down to Total bonus space earned.

 

You’ll see a number of total MB earned and a list of referrals you sent that earned you extra storage space. Learn how to earn free extra storage when you invite your friends to try Dropbox.

 

Need even more space? Consider upgrading to Dropbox Plus, which includes 2 TB of storage.
