Notes:

  • Dropbox Basic, Plus, Family, Professional, and Essentials accounts can’t be linked with each other.
  • Dropbox Standard, Advanced, Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise accounts can’t be linked with each other.

If you’re an admin, learn how to manage your team members’ linked accounts and devices.

What does “linking accounts” mean?

When you link two Dropbox accounts, you can easily switch between them anywhere you use Dropbox without logging out of one and into the other every time you want to switch.

You can link your accounts on dropbox.com, the Dropbox desktop app, and the Dropbox iOS app. However, you can unlink only on dropbox.com. Once you link or unlink two accounts, they become linked or unlinked everywhere you use Dropbox.

Although linking your accounts links them everywhere you use Dropbox, it doesn’t log you into both accounts on all devices. It only logs you in where you initiated the link. Your other devices will display the option for you to log into your linked account. After you do, you will remain logged in and can easily switch between your linked accounts on that device.

Personal security when linking a team account

Linking accounts doesn’t share or transfer information between the two accounts.

If you link your accounts and your admin uses the “log in as a team member” feature to log into your team member account, they can’t open or access your linked personal account. They can, however, view the name and email address of your linked personal account.

How to link your accounts

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with either your team or personal account credentials.
  2. Click your avatar (photo or initials) in the top right.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Click Link accounts next to Link your personal account or Link your team account.
  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click the Account tab.
  5. Click Add personal account or Add team account.
  1. Open the Dropbox iOS app.
  2. Log in with your team account credentials.
  3. Tap the account icon (person).
  4. Tap Add Personal Account.

Note: The ability to link accounts is not available on the Dropbox mobile app for Android. However, once you link accounts on a different device, you can log in and switch between your linked accounts on the Android app.

How to unlink your accounts

You can unlink your accounts only on dropbox.com. Unlinking your accounts unlinks them everywhere. Across all apps and devices, you’ll be logged out of the last account you added to that app, and you’ll stay logged into the first account.

You can always log back into your accounts on any device, as you normally would with any unlinked account.

To unlink your accounts:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with either account.
  2. Click your avatar (photo or initials) in the top right.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Click Unlink next to Linked accounts.
  6. Click Yes, unlink to confirm.
