How to use AI Auto-place Fields in Dropbox Sign

AI Auto-place Fields uses AI to detect where fields should go in a document and automatically places, aligns, and sizes them to match the document layout. You can review and edit the fields before sending your document for signature.

How do I use AI Auto-place Fields in Dropbox Sign?

  1. Log in to Dropbox Sign.
  2. Upload the file you want to use AI Auto-place Fields in using one of these methods:
    • Click Sign documents.
      • To add a file from your computer, click Upload and follow the prompts. You can also drag and drop the file into Drag documents here to upload.
      • To add a file from another app, click the app icon and follow the prompts.
      • Once you’ve added your file, click Next.
    • On the Home page, click Upload and choose from the dropdown options, or drag and drop the file into Drop documents here to get signed.
  3. Add signers and click Next.
    • If you’re the only signer, click I’m the only signer.
  4. In the Dropbox Sign editor, click Auto-place fields.
  5. Choose the signer (on a signature request) or role (on a template) you want to assign the fields to.
  6. Choose the document pages you want Auto-place Fields to process.

Note: There is a limit of 10 pages per auto-placement. You can trigger Auto-place Fields multiple times to include all pages.

 

  1. Choose the font and font size.
  2. Click Place fields. Dropbox Sign detects and places fields in your document.
  3. Review the detected fields and their placement. 
  4. Edit or delete fields as needed.

Note: You can use Auto-place Fields when there are already fields in your document. Existing fields aren't overwritten by triggering Auto-place Fields. 

After Auto-place Fields finishes, Dropbox Sign shows the number of fields placed. To undo the most recent auto-placement, click Undo. You can also undo the most recent auto-placement by selecting command-z (Mac) or control-z (Windows).

What fields can AI Auto-place Fields detect?

AI Auto-place Fields detects text-based fields in your uploaded document. It can also place a Date signed field when the document contains a label associated with a date.

Radio buttons, dropdowns, and checkboxes aren't supported in this version.

How do I correct AI-placed fields?

After Auto-place Fields processes your document, review the fields before sending it for signature.

You can:

  • Select and adjust fields. 
  • Delete fields you don't need.
  • Change the field type.
  • Reassign fields as needed.
  • Undo an Auto-place Fields action.

You can select multiple fields to edit or delete at the same time by holding the command key (Mac) or control key (Windows) while clicking the fields.

How does AI Auto-place Fields work with multiple signers?

When using Auto-place Fields, you can choose the signer or role for the fields before processing the document. You can also re-assign the fields that were placed to a different signer.

Will AI Auto-place Fields be available for Dropbox Sign API?

AI Auto-place Fields is available for Embedded Prep&Send through the Dropbox Sign API.
