How to transfer ownership of a Paper doc

This feature is only available to Dropbox Business team members on the old release of Dropbox Paper.

To find out if you’re using the old or new release of Dropbox Paper:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Create new file.

If you don’t see Dropbox Paper in the dropdown menu, then you’re using the old release.

If you do see Dropbox Paper in the dropdown menu, then you’re using the new 2020 release of Dropbox Paper. If you’re using the 2020 release of Dropbox Paper, the owner of your Paper doc is determined by the owner of the folder it’s stored in. Learn how to transfer the owner of a folder instead.

If you're a member of a Dropbox Business team, you can easily transfer ownership of a Paper doc to another member of the same team. Team admins can also transfer ownership of any doc that they currently have access to.

To transfer doc ownership:

  1. Open a Paper doc.
  2. Click Invite.
  3. Click the dropdown beside the name of the person you'd like to transfer ownership to.
    • If you don't see their name, share the doc using their email address first.
  4. Select Make owner.

Note: You can share docs between business and personal accounts, but you can't transfer doc ownership from a business to a personal account.
