Dropbox in the cloud

When a file is stored in the cloud, you're no longer chained to a single device or your hard drive. Everything you add to your Dropbox account is updated on dropbox.com and on any computer, phone, or tablet you have linked to your account. Make a change or delete a document? That is reflected, too. Access your account

There are 3 ways to access your new account: the Dropbox desktop app or folder on your computer, the Dropbox website, and the mobile app. To get the most from your Dropbox account, install the apps on your computer, tablet, and phone.

Sign in with Dropbox Business

You should have received an email invite to join your Dropbox Business team. To get started, select Join your team from the invitation, and follow the prompts to sign up. If you didn’t receive an email, ask your IT department or Dropbox Business admin for help.

Connect your accounts

Dropbox Business gets your team’s ideas flowing in a safe and secure location. As a team member, you can store, share, and collaborate on files in a work account that’s managed by your company admin. The admin manages users, team workflow, and all content in your company’s Dropbox Business accounts.

You can link your personal and work accounts on your computer or mobile device and still keep each account independent. This allows you to separate personal and work stuff, but easily switch between them without having to sign in and out every time. Keep those cat photos in your personal account for easy viewing, even at work.

1. Sign in to dropbox.com with your new Dropbox Business account credentials.
 
2. Click your avatar at the top-right corner of the page.
 
3. Select Settings.
 
4. Click Connect under Connect your personal Dropbox.
 

 

Dropbox desktop app

Once you install Dropbox on your computer, you can simply drag and drop files to add them to your Dropbox account. The files you move to the app will automatically upload to the Dropbox cloud so you can access them from any device. The app is also where you can organize your files and folders, create web-based files, share and collaborate with your team, and see your file activity and notifications.

You should also see the Dropbox icon in your computer’s system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac). There you can see your recent activity and notifications, and find quick links to all your files.

Follow these simple steps to download and install Dropbox on your computer.

  1. Download the desktop app on your computer.

  2. Once installed, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your Dropbox Business account credentials. You should use the same email address and password that you use on dropbox.com (this will be the same for all your devices).

  3. Sign in to your personal account if you plan to connect it to your Dropbox Business account.

  4. Once Dropbox is installed on your computer, you’ll see the desktop app as well as a Dropbox icon in the system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac) and a Dropbox folder on your hard drive.

What to do if Dropbox won't install.

You can add nearly any kind of file to your Dropbox account in several ways.

  • On your computer, you can drag and drop files into the desktop app or the Dropbox folder

    • You can also use the Save As… menu option in most applications to save files directly to your Dropbox folder

  • On dropbox.com, add files with the Upload button or by dragging and dropping

  • On a phone or tablet, open the Dropbox app and click the + (plus) icon to upload files

If you add lots of files at once, it may take a while for the initial upload to complete.

When you install the desktop app, a Dropbox folder is created on your hard drive. It works like any other folder, but its contents are uploaded to the Dropbox cloud. 

To use the Dropbox folder in Finder or File Explorer as your default setting:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your system tray or menu bar
  2. Click your profile picture or initials in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Preferences….
  4. Click the dropdown next to Open folders in: and choose Finder or File Explorer.

Dropbox mobile app

Stay connected to your team no matter where you are. The Dropbox mobile app makes it easy for you to access files from any phone or tablet linked to your account. See the latest comments from your coworkers, scan documents using your phone's camera, or even make files available for offline access.

If you already have the Dropbox app on your phone or tablet, simply sign in with your work account. If you don't have the app yet on your other devices, download it from dropbox.com/mobile, or your preferred app store.

Easily upload, organize, and share your scans with the Dropbox doc scanner. You can even search for text within your scans thanks to optical character recognition (OCR).

Follow these steps to scan and save a doc from your phone

  1. Open the Dropbox app on your Android or iOS device.

  2. Tap + (plus).

  3. Choose Scan Document.

    - On Android devices, you’ll need to select Allow when prompted

  4. Take a picture of content you want to transform into a document. You can also select an existing image from the iOS Camera Roll.  Or on Android, tap the photos icon.
