FAQs about the Dropbox app in the Microsoft app store

Why are there two Dropbox apps in the Microsoft app store?

Searching for “Dropbox” in the Microsoft app store will bring up the Dropbox app for Windows 10+ and Dropbox Lite. They are two different versions of Dropbox for Windows.

The Dropbox Lite app experience is similar to using Dropbox web or mobile previews. You can view your files and folders and preview content, but you won’t be able to sync your content.

The Dropbox app in the Microsoft app store offers the same functionality as the Dropbox desktop app downloaded from dropbox.com. If you choose to use this version of the Dropbox app, you will receive future product updates from the Microsoft app store.

Can I use the Dropbox web app and Microsoft store app at the same time?

You won’t be able to have both the Dropbox desktop app and the Dropbox app from the Microsoft app store installed simultaneously.

If you choose to download the Dropbox app from the Microsoft Store, the existing Dropbox desktop app on your device will need to be uninstalled. Before the previous app is uninstalled, you’ll receive an alert and will be asked to confirm that you want to install the store app. After the first app is done uninstalling, the new one will automatically install. Your content won’t be affected during this process.
