The new Dropbox desktop experience is one organized place where you can bring traditional files, cloud content, Dropbox Paper docs, and web shortcuts together—and work the way that works for you.
The Dropbox desktop experience includes:
- The new Dropbox desktop app, which can be accessed from your taskbar (Windows) or dock (Mac)
- The Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac), now with added smart features
- The Dropbox folder in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac)
Together, they’re your personalized go-to spot to catch up on the latest with your work and help you focus on what’s next—all from the convenience of your desktop.
How to get the new Dropbox desktop experience

Pin files and folders
You can now pin a file or folder to the top of another folder so it always appears at the top for easy access.
Note: Your pins aren’t reflected in File Explorer or Finder. To access pinned files and folders, you must be on the Dropbox desktop app, dropbox.com, or the Dropbox mobile app.
Intelligent file suggestions
Click the For you tab of Dropbox in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac), to see intelligently suggested files and folders based on your Dropbox activity, so you can easily jump back into the files you’re likely to need.
Updated file previews
In the previous version of Dropbox, file previews were only available on dropbox.com. With the new Dropbox desktop experience, you can preview, view, and comment on files—including video—directly in the Dropbox desktop app.
Store your team’s cloud content and shortcuts directly in Dropbox
You can now create, store, and share the following directly from Dropbox:
- Dropbox Paper docs
- Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files
You can also store a shortcut to a webpage in a Dropbox folder, just like you would store a file.

New third-party integrations
Keep your team’s files, meetings, and comments in the same place by connecting tools like Slack and Zoom.
You can also connect your Google or Outlook calendar to your Dropbox account to view or join upcoming meetings right from Dropbox.
Easily, securely share large files to anyone, even if they don’t have a Dropbox account. You can also confirm file delivery and track how many times your files have been downloaded.
