This article describes features available to all Dropbox Dash customers.

You can share your Stacks both inside and outside your organization. You can do so by adding people directly through their email, or by copying a link to the Stack and pasting it where you’d like to share the Stack.

Note: Adding someone to a Stack with their name or email will automatically give that person access to any Dropbox files or folders in the Stack. They’ll also have access to any files and folders added to the Stack after it’s been shared with them. If you share a Stack using a link, the existing Dropbox file and folder permissions will remain the same.

How to set sharing permissions for Dropbox files and folders in Stacks

Anyone with the Stack link can access the content it contains. However, if the content is stored in Dropbox, access still depends on the file’s sharing settings. Only content with link-based access enabled can be opened.

Notes:

  • You may see Stacks your content has been added to listed in the sharing window, even if you don’t have access to view or edit those Stacks.
  • If your content is referenced in a Stack, that Stack can allow access to your content via link, unless Stack-based access is turned off.

How to turn off Stack-based access

To prevent Stack links from granting access to Dropbox content, you can enable link restrictions on the content’s parent folder.

When link restrictions are enabled:

  • Stack links will only work for those who already have access to the files or folders in Dropbox
  • All link-based sharing is turned off for that content, including traditional shared links outside of Dash

This setting affects everyone with access to the parent folder, including people who may have added the content to a Stack. Use this option when you need tighter control over who can view or open your files, regardless of how they’re shared.
