How to use Save to Dropbox

Save to Dropbox is currently a beta experience and is subject to additional terms.
You can save images, webpages, and other content from the internet directly to your Dropbox account with Save to Dropbox. You can organize your items in collections, share links to your saved content, take screen shots of what you want to save from the internet, and more.

How to install Save to Dropbox

To install Save to Dropbox:

  1. Visit the Google Chrome store.
    • Note: Save to Dropbox is only available for Google Chrome.
  2. Click Add to Chrome.
  3. Click Add extension.

How to save content to collections

When you use Save to Dropbox, your content is saved to collections you can name and manage.

To save content from the web to collections:

  1. Click the extensions icon (puzzle piece) at the top of your browser window.
    • Note: You can also hover over an image or right click on the webpage to use Save to Dropbox.
  2. Choose Save to Dropbox (beta).
  3. Click Clip to collect…
    • To save part of the page, click Take screenshot. Then, select the portion of the page you’d like to save.
      • Note: You can click anywhere in the window to save the entire page.
    • To save the entire page as an image, click Save page as image. Save to Dropbox will scroll down the page and save it for you.
    • To save just the address of the page, click Bookmark URL.

When you save an item as a screenshot, image, or bookmark, Save to Dropbox defaults to save all your content that way. To change how you save your content, click the dropdown arrow next to the save button in your collections panel and choose how you’d like to save your next item.

Your content is automatically saved to a folder in your Dropbox account called Saved from Web. To change the default location where your content is saved:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon to open Save to Dropbox.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top of your drawer.
  3. Scroll down to Default save location.
  4. Click Choose.
  5. Click the checkbox next to the folder where you’d like to save your content automatically.
  6. Click Select.

How to manage collections

You can create new collections to organize the content you save from the web. You can also rename, delete, and open your collections in dropbox.com.

To create a new collection:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon to open Save to Dropbox.
  2. Click New collection.
  3. Type in the name of your new collection.
  4. Click Create.
    • Note: You can also create a new collection whenever you save content. Click the dropdown arrow at the bottom of the Save to Dropbox window, then follow the steps above.

To manage a collection:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon to open Save to Dropbox.
  2. Click the collection you’d like to manage.
  3. Click the “” (ellipsis).
    • To rename your collection, click Rename. Then, type in the new name and press the enter/return key on your keyboard.
    • To delete your collection, click Delete. To confirm, click Delete once more.

How to share items from Save to Dropbox

You can copy items from your collections and paste them wherever you’d like. You can also create links to your content, rename your items, and more.

To share items from your collections:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon to open Save to Dropbox.
  2. Click the collection with the item you’d like to share.
  3. Choose the item to share.
    • Note: To view the item in your Dropbox account, click the “” (ellipsis). Then, click View on dropbox.com
    • If you’d like to move the item to another folder, click the folder with a magnifying glass icon. Then, click the checkbox next to the collection you’d like to move the item to and click Select.
    • To copy the item, click the two squares icon.
    • To copy a link to the item, click the chain icon.
  4. Paste the item or link wherever you’d like.

How to uninstall Save to Dropbox

To uninstall Save to Dropbox:

  1. Visit the Google Chrome store.
  2. Click Remove from Chrome.
  3. Click Remove to confirm.
  4. Click the checkbox next to your reason, or provide your own.
  5. Click Submit.

Note: Uninstalling Save to Dropbox doesn’t delete your Dropbox account. Learn how to delete your Dropbox account.
