Connect Google Workspace to Dropbox Dash

This article describes a feature available to all Dropbox Dash users.

You can connect multiple Google Workspace apps to Dropbox Dash simultaneously to access and search your content in one place. The apps currently supported include Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive.

Requirements

To connect the apps to Dash, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Authorization: You must authorize Dash during setup.
  • Active account: You need an active account for each app you connect.

How to connect Google Workspace apps to Dash

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Apps.
  4. Click (add) next to Google Workspace under “Connect your work suite.”
    • Note: A Workspace option only appears if at least two apps are available for you to connect.
  5. Review the permissions in the authorization prompt, then approve access for all supported apps in the Google Workspace.

Notes:

  • If you already have an existing connection for an app, such as Google Drive, Dropbox won’t create a duplicate connection for that app.
  • Some apps may be unavailable due to admin restrictions. Contact your admin to enable access.

Supported apps API permissions Integrations features
Gmail
  • Read your email address: This permission is required for authentication and identity verification.
  • Read your Gmail: This permission allows Dash to search through emails to find relevant results.
  • Messages: Dash gathers basic email information such as the sender, recipient, subject line, body text, timestamp, and attachment names.
  • Contacts: Dash gathers basic contact information such as the contact display name, email, and profile image to enhance email search capabilities.
Google Calendar
  • View and edit events: This enables Dash to search your calendar events.
  • View and download any calendar you have access to: This enables Dash to search through all the calendars you have access to.
  • Events: Dash gathers basic event information such as date, event title, location, and attendee list to power event search and the calendar widget.
  • Contacts: Dash gathers basic contact information such as the contact name, email, and profile image to enhance email and calendar search capabilities.
Google Drive
  • Access your Google Drive: This permission lets Dash discover and index your files and folders, making your Google Drive content searchable within Dash.
  • View activity on your Drive files: This permission allows Dash to access your file activity, such as edits and shares, ensuring the most up-to-date information is available in search results.
  • View your email address: This permission helps Dash verify your identity and associate your Google Drive data with your Dash account.
  • View your basic profile info: This permission allows Dash to display your name and profile image for a more personalized experience, helping identify you across search and sharing features.
  • View your domain information: This permission allows Dash to identify your Google Workspace domain, which is used for organization-wide search and security controls.
  • View Google Groups in your domain: This permission allows Dash to access group memberships for sharing and to respect group-based access in search results.
  • View members of Google Groups: This permission enables Dash to recognize which users are part of which groups, ensuring proper permissions are reflected in search and sharing.
  • View your organizational units: This permission allows Dash to respect organization structure and apply correct permissions and filters based on your org unit in search results.
  • View users in your organization: This permission allows Dash to support searching, sharing, and filtering by user, improving collaboration features across your domain.
  • View audit reports for your domain: This permission grants Dash access to audit logs, helping support advanced analytics, security, and troubleshooting within the organization.
  • Files and folders: Dash gathers basic information about the file such as the file name, size, and file type for search capabilities.

 

Admins: How to connect apps for your team

Before your team members can connect their Google Workspace accounts to Dropbox Dash, you’ll need to ensure apps aren’t disabled. To enable the apps:

  1. Log in to dash.ai using your admin credentials.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the lower left.
  3. Select Admin console.
  4. Click Apps.
  5. Click the More apps tab. 
  6. Click Add to the right of the apps.
  7. Click Enable [app] in the pop-up window.

You’ll see a notification that says the app was enabled.
