The information in this article applies to all Dropbox Dash users.

You can connect your Gmail account to Dropbox Dash so you can access and search your Gmail content directly within Dash. This requires OAuth authentication to ensure Dash only retrieves information relevant to your data, giving you full control over what Dash can access. Dash strictly follows the OAuth model, meaning it only accesses the data you specifically permit.

Notes:

  • Team members can connect to Dropbox Dash only after their Dash admin approves and enables the integration. After approval, they must grant Dash permission to access their account.
  • You must have an active Google account to connect with Dash.

Integration features

For Gmail, Dash captures the following details:

  • Messages: Dash gathers basic email information such as the sender, recipient, subject line, body text, timestamp, and attachment names.
  • Contacts: Dash gathers basic contact information such as the contact display name, email, and profile image to enhance email search capabilities.

API usage

When connecting Gmail with Dropbox Dash, Dash requests the following authorizations:

  • Read emails and settings: This enables Dash to search through your emails.

How content syncing works

  • Content sync begins immediately after establishing a connection to ensure you can start searching right away, prioritizing the most relevant data.
  • The Activity feed shows content a user has engaged with through actions such as previewing, uploading, creating, commenting, opening, modifying, sharing, and receiving content.
  • Incremental sync occurs every 15 minutes.
