AI team credits: an overview

AI team credits are a shared credit balance for eligible AI-powered features in Dropbox. They enable you and your team to use AI directly in Dropbox to summarize, analyze, generate insights, organize content, and more.

How do AI team credits work?

As a baseline, your team will receive 250 AI credits per licensed user each month, combined into one shared team balance.

AI credits are available to the whole team, rather than assigned to team members individually. Any team member can use any number of credits from the shared balance while credits remain. 

Which features use credits?

As part of the new Dropbox experience, some existing products and features will have expanded AI-powered capabilities which use AI credits. 

Features with the (sparkle) as part of an icon will use AI credits. These include, but aren’t limited to: Ask, write, and AI actions such as renaming or reorganizing files. 

How to check AI credit usage

If you’re a team Admin, you can track the total AI credit usage of your team in the admin console, including your team’s remaining AI credits and recent AI activity.

To check team AI credit usage:

1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
2. Click Admin Console.
3. Click Dashboard.
4. Click AI credits details.
   • Note: An overview of your team’s total AI credit usage will be under AI credits on your dashboard.

To check individual team member AI credit usage:

1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
2. Click Dashboard.
3. Click AI credits details.
4. Click Show all next to Member usage.

Individual AI credit usage will appear under Credit usage, along with how long ago a member last engaged with AI features that used credits. 

Admins will receive notification by email and within Dropbox when team credits are running low. If you are a team or billing admin, you’ll be able to add more credits from the Add credits notification in chat or from the admin console dashboard. 

What happens when your team runs out of credits

When your team has reached the credit limit, you’ll see a No AI credits left notification in the left sidebar on dropbox.com and in the desktop app or an Add AI credits on web notification on mobile. 

In order for admins and team members to continue using AI-powered features requiring credits, an admin must purchase additional credits. If your team has run out of credits, you can wait for your team’s monthly credits to reset or add credits to keep your team's work moving with AI-powered features. 

Additionally, admins will receive notifications by email, in Dropbox, and in their Activity feed and admin console when the AI team credit limit has been reached. To add more team credits, click Add credits from any of those surfaces.

How to add more credits 

Once your team reaches its AI credit limit, you’ll need to add additional credits or wait until your monthly credit limit is renewed to continue using certain AI-powered features.

To add more AI team credits from the admin console:

1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
2. Click Admin Console.
3. Click Dashboard.
4. Click Add credits under AI credits in your dashboard.
5. Complete the steps to purchase.

FAQs about the AI credits add-on

Does purchasing credits change my Dropbox plan?

No. Purchasing credits only increases your team’s AI usage balance. It doesn’t change or upgrade your current Dropbox plan.

What happens to the team AI credit balance if a team member license is added or removed?

If a license is removed from your team, the team AI credit balance will be 250 fewer in the next credit reset and those moving forward. 

If a license is added to your team, the team AI credit balance will have 250 more credits added to the shared balance as soon as that license was added. The additional credits will be reflected in future monthly credit resets.

When are purchased credits added to my team’s balance?

Credits are added to your team’s shared balance after a successful add-on purchase and are available to use right away.

Can I purchase more than one AI credit add-on?

Yes. You can purchase multiple AI credit add-ons to increase your team’s shared balance.

When do credits refresh?

Credits refresh monthly on your billing date, whether your AI credit add-on is billed monthly or annually.

How am I charged for an AI credit add-on?

You’re charged when you purchase an AI credit add-on. If you purchase an add-on mid-cycle, the initial charge is prorated. Your team will receive the full monthly credit amount which will be shared among all licensed users to be used by the end of the reset cycle.
