Dropbox (beta) is a version of the Dropbox desktop app for Windows that’s available in the Microsoft Store. It has very similar functionality and features to the Dropbox desktop app.

What’s the difference between this beta and the Dropbox desktop app?

The sync icons on your files and folders look different in this beta than they do in the Dropbox desktop app. Those sync icon differences are:

  • In the Dropbox desktop app, files and folders stored locally, on your hard drive and on dropbox.com, are represented by a white checkmark in a solid green circle. In the Dropbox (beta) version, they’re represented by a green checkmark in a solid white circle outlined in green.
  • In the Dropbox desktop app, folders that contain both local and online-only files and folders are represented by a green checkmark in a solid white circle outlined in green. In the Dropbox (beta) version, they’re represented by a cloud icon.
  • In the Dropbox desktop app, empty folders are represented by a green checkmark, if they’re local, or a cloud icon, if they’re online-only. In the Dropbox (beta) version, they’re represented by a cloud icon whether they’re local or online-only.
