How to set up Dropbox Dash

After you install Dropbox Dash, you can customize settings like appearance, keyboard shortcuts, file access, and connected apps.

Note: Settings don’t sync across the web or other devices.

Setting up the Dropbox Dash desktop app

To open the settings page on the Dash desktop app:

  1. Press control-shift-e (Windows) or command-shift-e (macOS) to open the Dropbox Dash desktop app.
  2. Click Continue to log in.
  3. Log in using your Dropbox Dash account credentials.
  4. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the left sidebar.
  5. Select Settings.

Select the General tab to:

  • Choose a theme for the app between Light, Dark, and System which will select the default theme of your computer.
  • Choose whether to show the Dash desktop app on startup, and whether to show Dash in your taskbar (Windows) or Dock (macOS).

Select the Local Files tab to:

  • Allow Dash to access your local files from File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS)
  • Select which specific folders it can access.

Select the Keyboard shortcuts tab to:

  • Review the keyboard shortcuts to open the Dash desktop app, open Settings, check for updates, and quit the Dash app.
  • Edit the shortcut to open Dash.

Setting up the Dropbox Dash Browser extension

To access Dropbox Dash browser extension settings:

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Settings.

Select the General tab to:

  • Choose a theme for the app between Light, Dark, and System which will select the default theme of your computer.
  • Learn how to disable Dropbox Dash as the default tab by hovering over (info).
  • Clear your browsing history to prevent history from appearing in Dash search results.

Select the Apps tab to view, add, or remove apps.
