How to download and install Dropbox Dash

Dropbox Dash combines AI universal search and organization with universal content access control. You can use Dash by visiting dash.ai, with the desktop app, browser extension, and on your mobile device.

How to install the Dropbox Dash desktop app

 

The Dash desktop app allows you to search all of your content, from any of your added apps and your local files, as well as view and create stacks, without needing to open external apps or your internet browser.

To download the Dash desktop app on Windows:

 

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Select Desktop app. The .exe file will begin downloading automatically.
  5. Open the .exe file and follow the prompts.
  6. Open the app and log in with your Dropbox Dash account credentials.

 

Once installed, the Dash app can be launched by pressing control-e.

To download the Dash desktop app on macOS:

 

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Select Desktop app. The .dmg file will begin downloading automatically.
  5. Open the .dmg file and drag the Dash icon to your “Applications” folder.
  6. Open the app and log in with your Dropbox account credentials.

 

Once installed, the Dash app can be launched by pressing command-e.

Desktop app settings

 

To open the settings page on the Dash desktop app:

 

  1. Press control-e (Windows) or command-e (macOS) to open the Dropbox Dash desktop app.
  2. Click Continue to log in.
  3. Log in using your Dropbox Dash account credentials.
  4. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the left sidebar.
  5. Select Settings.

 

Select the General tab to:

 

  • Choose a theme for the app between LightDark, and System which will select the default theme of your computer.
  • Choose whether to show the Dash desktop app on startup, and whether to show Dash in your taskbar (Windows) or Dock (macOS).

 

Select the Local Files tab to:

 

  • Allow Dash to access your local files from File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS)
  • Select which specific folders it can access.

 

Select the Keyboard shortcuts tab to:

 

  • Review the keyboard shortcuts to open the Dash desktop app, open Settings, check for updates, and quit the Dash app.
  • Edit the shortcut to open Dash.

How to add the Dropbox Dash browser extension

The Dropbox Dash browser extension allows you to easily access Dash from any web page. From the extension you can search content across your added apps, access and create stacks, and use Dash Assistant. 

 

The extension also allows you to open the Dash start page by default each time you create a new tab.

Note: The Dropbox Dash browser extension is only available on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari.

Click the tab below that matches your experience to learn how to set up the Dropbox Dash browser extension.

To set up the Dropbox Dash browser extension on Google Chrome:

 

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Select Browser Extension.  
  5. When the Chrome webstore opens, click Add to Chrome.
  6. Click Add extension on the pop-up that appears.

 

You’ll see a confirmation message that the browser extension was added to Chrome.

To set up the Dropbox Dash browser extension on Microsoft Edge:

 

  1. Log in to Dropbox Dash.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Select Browser Extension.
  5. When the Microsoft Edge add-ons page opens, click Add to Edge.
  6. Click Add extension on the pop-up that appears.

 

You’ll see a confirmation message that the browser extension was added to Edge.

To set up the Dropbox Dash browser extension on Safari:

 

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture/initials) in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Download.
  4. Select  Browser extension.
  5. Click Get, then click Install.

 

Once the extension is installed, you’ll need to change your browser settings to use the Dash browser extension. To do so:

 

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click Safari in the menu bar in the top left of your screen.
  3. Select Settings from the dropdown.
  4. Select the General tab.
  5. Click the dropdown next to New windows open with:, then select Dropbox Dash.
  6. Click the dropdown next to New tabs open with:, then select Dropbox Dash.
  7. Close the Safari settings window and open a new tab in Safari.
  8. Check the box next to Remember for other websites in the pop up that appears.
  9. Click Always Allow.

 

When you open a new tab in Safari, you’ll see the Dropbox Dash start page.

Note: Clicking Keep it (On Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge) when first opening a new tab will accept Dropbox Dash as your new default tab. This will ensure that Dropbox Dash is seamlessly integrated into your workflow, giving you access to powerful search capabilities from wherever you work online.  

Browser extension settings

 

To access Dropbox Dash browser extension settings:

 

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click Account in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Settings.

 

Select the General tab to:

 

  • Choose a theme for the app between Light, Dark, and System which will select the default theme of your computer.
  • Learn how to disable Dropbox Dash as the default tab by hovering over (info).
  • Clear your browsing history to prevent history from appearing in Dash search results.

 

Select the Apps tab to view, add, or remove apps.

How to uninstall the Dropbox Dash desktop app

To uninstall the Dropbox Dash desktop app:
  1. Click the Start button in the bottom left corner of your screen.
  2. Select All apps from the start menu.
  3. Right click Dropbox Dash and select Uninstall from the dropdown.

 

The Dropbox Dash app will be uninstalled.

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select Applications from the navigation bar.
  3. Drag the Dropbox Dash icon to Trash

 

The Dropbox Dash app will be uninstalled.

Important: Deleting the Dropbox Dash desktop app won’t cancel your Dropbox Dash subscription, or delete your Dropbox Dash account. If you'd like to delete your Dash account, reach out to Dash Support through the admin console.

How to remove the Dropbox Dash browser extension

To remove the Dropbox Dash browser extension:
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click  (options) in the top right corner.
  3. Hover over Extensions and select Manage extensions from the dropdown.
  4. Click Remove underneath Dropbox Dash.
  5. Click Remove.

 

The Dropbox Dash extension will be removed from Google Chrome.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click  (extensions) next to the address bar at the top of your screen.
  3. Click 🗀  next to  Dropbox Dash.
  4. Select Remove from Microsoft Edge from the dropdown.
  5. Click Remove.

 

The Dropbox Dash extension will be removed from Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click Safari in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
  3. Select Settings from the dropdown.
  4. Select the Extensions tab.
  5. Click Dropbox Dash in the menu on the left side.
  6. Click Uninstall

 

The Dropbox Dash extension will be removed from Safari.
