Notes:

  • You must be on one of the following Slack plans to add Slack to Dash:
    • Slack Free
    • Slack Pro
    • Slack Business+
    • Slack Enterprise+
  • This integration uses Slack’s Real-time Search API, which offers enhanced search for Slack Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ users. If you’re using Slack Free, you can expect basic keyword search for Slack in Dash.
  • An admin must first connect your organization’s Slack account to Dash before you can add your individual account and install the Dash AI app. Learn more about admin approval.

API permissions

When adding your individual Slack account, Dash requests the following authorizations:

Dash AI app integration permissions

These permissions allow Dash to operate within Slack, respond to your direct messages, and link with your Dash account:

  • assistant:write
    • Enables Dash to act as an AI app agent in your workspace
  • chat:write
    • Allows Dash to send direct message replies
  • im:history
    •   Grants access to your direct message history to answer your questions
  • team:read
    • Provides basic workspace info (name, domain, icon) to connect Dash to the correct workspace
  • users:read
    • Fetches basic profile details (like display names) to identify message authors
  • users:read.email
    • Securely matches Slack users with their Dash accounts using email

Real-time Slack integration permissions

These permissions enable Dash to search your Slack content and display results within Dash:

  • channels:read / groups:read / im:read / mpim:read
    • Provides context about message sources (public/private channels, DMs, group DMs)
  • files:read
    • Allows Dash to search and display Slack files that match your query
  • search:read.im / search:read.mpim / search:read.private / search:read.public
    • Allows Dash to search messages across DMs, group DMs, private channels, and public channels that you have access to
  • team:read
    • Lets Dash redirect you back into Slack when you click a search result
  • users:read / users:read.email
    • Validates that your Slack account matches your Dash account securely

Limitations

  • Messages sent by bots aren’t searchable in Dash.

How real-time search integration works

After you add Slack, Dash fetches search results directly from Slack on demand. This ensures your search results are always up to date.
