Connect Microsoft 365 to Dropbox Dash

 This article describes a feature available to all Dropbox Dash users.

You can connect multiple Microsoft 365 Suite apps to Dropbox Dash simultaneously to access and search your content in Dash. The apps currently supported include OneDrive, OneNote, and Outlook.

Requirements

To connect the apps to Dash, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Authorization: You must authorize Dash during setup.
  • Active account: You need an active account for each app you connect.

How to connect Microsoft 365 Suite apps to Dash

  1. Log in to dash.ai.
  2. Click ① Settings.
  3. Click Apps.
  4. Click ① (add) next to M365 Suite under “Connect your work suite.”
    • Note: A suite option only appears if at least two apps are available for you to connect.
  5. Review the permissions in the authorization prompt, then approve access for all supported apps in the Microsoft Suite.

Notes:

  • If you already have an existing connection for an app, such as Microsoft Outlook, Dropbox won’t create a duplicate connection for that app.
  • Some apps may be unavailable due to admin restrictions. Contact your admin to enable access.

Supported apps API permissions Integrations features
OneDrive
  • Read user files: This permission allows Dash to read your files so that they can be discovered with Search or Chat. 
  • Read items in all site collections: This permission allows Dash to read sites you have access to so that Dash can fetch relevant files. 
  • Read all users' basic profiles: This permission allows Dash to read your basic user profile data to help identify you after authentication and personalize your Dash search results. 
  • Files and folders: Dash gathers basic information about the file such as the file name, size, and file type for search capabilities
OneNote
  • Read OneNote notebooks you can access: This permission allows Dash to search for notebooks that have been shared with you. 
  • Read your OneNote notebooks: This permission allows Dash to search for your notebooks. 
  • Offline data access: This permission allows Dash to maintain access to data even when you’re offline.
  • Your user profile data: This permission allows Dash to access user profile data, including your name and email, so Dash can identify you after login.
  • Notebooks: Microsoft OneNote users can create multiple notebooks. Dash gathers OneNote information, such as notebook titles and content, so it can search these items.
  • Sections: Each notebook can contain multiple sections. Dash gathers OneNote information, such as section names and content, so it can search these items.
  • Pages: Each notebook can contain multiple pages. Dash gathers OneNote information, such as page content, so it can search these items.
Outlook
  • Have full access to your calendars: This permission allows Dash to read calendar events to populate the calendar view with the most up-to-date information. 
  • Read your mail: This permission allows Dash to read email in your mailbox so that they can be searched within Dash.
  • Maintain access to data you have given Dropbox Dash access to: This permission allows Dash to see and update the data you gave it access to, even when you’re not online. 
  • Read your profile: The permission allows Dash to read your profile so we can identify you after authentication and personalize your experience.
  • Events: Dash gathers basic event information such as date, event title, location, and attendee list to power event search and the calendar widget.
  • Messages: Dash gathers basic email information such as the sender, recipient, subject line, body text, timestamp, and attachment names.
  • Files: Dash gathers basic information about the file such as the file name, size, and file type for search capabilities.
  • Contacts: Dash gathers basic contact information such as the contact name, email, and profile image to enhance email and calendar search capabilities.

Admins: How to connect apps for your team

Before your team members can connect their Microsoft Suite accounts to Dropbox Dash, you’ll need to ensure apps aren’t disabled. To enable the apps:

  1. Log in to dash.ai using your admin credentials.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the lower left.
  3. Select Admin console.
  4. Click Apps.
  5. Click the More apps tab. 
  6. Click ① Add to the right of the apps.
  7. Click Enable [app] in the pop-up window.

You’ll see a notification that says the app was enabled.
