Important: The Remove domains action removes existing access. Unless blocked at an organization level, it’s possible for items to be shared in the future with previously removed domains.

Before you begin

Before removing access for a domain, do the following:

  • Confirm that the domain is external to your organization. Learn more about how to view your internal domains.
  • Confirm that you want to remove all accounts within the domain that have access to the selected items. If you only want to remove specific accounts, learn more about removing collaborators.
  • Review the items that would be affected by removing access from the selected domain.
  • Check whether any matching accounts own assets or receive access through a group, parent folder, shared drive, site, or link.

How to remove access for an external domain

  1. Log in to Dropbox Protect. Learn more about accessing Protect.
  2. Use the filters to narrow down the affected items.
  3. Once you select all the items, click ✗ [remove domains].
  4. Under “Domain,” enter the domain or domains you want to remove.
    • Note: Domains must be entered exactly as they appear and are case-sensitive. Each subdomain and domain variant must be listed separately.
  5. Type “CONFIRM.”
  6. Click Remove.

Depending on the source app and item, an account may still have access after the domain was removed because it has one or more of the following:

  • A group or site membership
  • Access that is managed at the top-level
  • A shared link
  • Ownership of the asset
  • Access is granted again after the action is complete
