How to edit pending Dropbox Sign signature requests

With Dropbox Sign, you can update any part of a pending signature request after it’s sent without canceling your initial request. Paid Dropbox Sign customers can also add or modify expiration dates and times to initial or pending requests. Learn how to add an expiration date and time to your signature requests.

Note: When editing a pending signature request, you will need to re-input signers, documents, cc’d email addresses, etc.

How to edit a pending signature request with Sign Web

When you edit and resend a signature request, signers who already signed will get a new email notifying them of the changes. They’ll be prompted to re-sign, with all unchanged fields automatically pre-populated.

To edit a pending signature request:
  1. Log in to sign.dropbox.com
  2. Click Documents in the left sidebar.
  3. Click “” (more options) on the pending signature request you’d like to edit.
  4. Select Edit and resend from the dropdown menu.The editor opens with the same documents, signers, and fields pre-populated. 
  5. Update recipients, adjust fields in real time, and edit your email message. You can also modify parts of your document.
  6. Click Save when finished.

How to edit a pending signature request with Sign API

Sign API customers have the flexibility to quickly edit pending signature requests. Through the following API endpoints they can edit signatures based on whether they are individual signature requests or signature requests from eSignature templates.

Note: Dropbox Sign API plans are quota-based, editing and resending a signature request will count toward your plan’s quota usage.

Additional details:

  • Signers who have signed must carefully review their responses and complete any new or changed fields. Dropbox Sign isn’t responsible for any errors in repopulated data.
  • Signers removed from the request will receive an email notifying them their signature is no longer required.
  • Signer access codes don’t automatically repopulate.
  • The audit trail records all changes, including:
    • Signature request edited
    • Signer reassignment
    • Signer added or removed
    • Resent with expiration date added or edited
    • Resent without expiration date
