The information in this article applies to admins on Dropbox Dash accounts.

When removing a member from Dash, admins can transfer that member’s stacks to another individual or their own account. This guide will walk through the steps of transferring stacks, including the ability to transfer later.

Note: Admins will be required to delete the member’s Dropbox account in order to delete their Dash account. As part of this flow, the admin will have the opportunity to transfer the member’s files, as well. You can learn more about this process here. Admins can re-add the member’s Dropbox after completing this process.

Step 1: Accessing the Member Management Page

  1. Navigate to the Members section from the Admin Console.
  2. Locate the member whose account you want to remove. You can use the search bar or scroll through the list of members.

Step 2: Initiating the Account Deletion Process

  1. Click the ellipsis (...) menu next to the member's name and select Delete Member.
  2. A confirmation dialog will appear with options for transferring the member's stacks and content.

Step 3: Transferring stacks

The delete flow will prompt you to choose how to handle the member's stacks:

  • Transfer Now:
    • Enter the email address of the recipient, who must be an existing member, who should inherit the stacks.
  • Transfer Later:
    • Select this option to defer the stack transfer. You can transfer stacks at a later time before the account deletion deadline, which is 30 days after the deletion initiation of the member.

Step 4: Confirmation View

After selecting the transfer option, you’ll see a summary of your actions:

  • The member's account will be deactivated, and their access will be revoked immediately.
  • A detailed breakdown of how the stacks will be handled is displayed.
  • Confirm the recipient’s email address or verify that you’ve opted for later transfer.

Click Continue to finalize the action.

Step 5: Transferring During the "Transfer Later" Flow

When you select the Transfer Later option during the account deletion process, you can revisit and complete the stack transfer within a 30-day window after the user’s account is marked for deletion. This flow provides the flexibility to transfer stacks at a more convenient time.

How to trigger the "Transfer Later" Flow:

  1. Locate the Member's Deleted Account:
    1. Navigate to the Members section in the Admin Console.
    2. Find the member marked as Pending Deletion.
    3. Click the Manage Files option next to their name.
  2. Manage and Transfer stacks:
    1. A dialog box will appear with options to transfer the stacks.
    2. Enter the recipient's name or email address in the designated field to transfer the stacks to another team member.
    3. Confirm your selection to initiate the transfer.

Notes:

  • Timeframe: Admins have up to 30 days to complete the transfer after the account is flagged for deletion.
  • Action Items: Be sure to review the stacks before initiating the transfer to ensure that all content is handled appropriately.
  • If no action is taken by the end of the 30-day window, the stacks may be archived or managed according to the organization's retention policies.
