How to delete content in Dropbox DocSend

Overview

All DocSend users can delete content to clear storage space or to remove unwanted files, folders or links. Deleted files or folders will remain in the user’s “Deleted content” folder for 30 days before they’re permanently deleted.

Deleting files

You can delete any files you upload to DocSend, or any files in a team folder that you own or have permission to edit. To make sure you don’t delete files by mistake, a confirmation message will always appear prior to deletion. Deleting a file will:

  • Delete and disable all associated with links. 
  • Delete all associated visit data.

How to delete files

  1. Log in to DocSend.
  2. Click Content library.
  3. Go to the file you want to delete.
  4. Click  (more options), then select Delete
  5. Click Yes, delete document to confirm deletion.

Note: Individual contact information will remain even after deleting a file, link, or folder.

Deleting links

When you delete a link from your Content library, you will:

  • Delete all associated visit data
  • Disable access to visitors

How to delete links

  1. Log in to DocSend.
  2. Click Content library.
  3. Find the link you wish to delete.
  4. Click  (more options), then select Delete this link.
  5. Click OK to confirm the deletion.

Deleting folders

Deleting a folder will delete all content within the including all links and visit data associated with the folder. We always recommend you review the folder content before deleting it.

  • Personal Folders: You’re the only one who can delete your personal folders.
  • Team Folders: Admins, owners, or any team member with edit access can delete team folders.

Note: Deleted folders retain their folder structure when they’re moved to the “Deleted content” folder, including all nested items.

How to delete folders

  1. Log in to DocSend.
  2. Click Content library.
  3. Find the folder you wish to delete.
  4. Click  (more options), then select Delete.
  5. Click Yesdelete folder to confirm deletion.

Restoring deleted items

When you delete a file or folder, it’s moved to the “Deleted content” folder for 30 days before being permanently deleted. During that 30 days, you can restore it and all its associated analytics.

To restore deleted files or folders:

  1. Log in to DocSend.
  2. Click Content library.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the left sidebar and click Deleted content.
  4. Go to the item you want to restore and click Restore.

Notes:

  • Team members can only view and restore items they personally deleted in the “Deleted content” folder. Team admins or owners can view and restore any items deleted from team folders, but not items deleted from personal folders.
  • In the “Deleted content” folder, you can permanently delete files you don’t want to be restored.
  • If a deleted folder’s parent folder no longer exists, it will be restored to the root folder.

Archiving content

If you want to delete content but need to preserve the visit data, you can create a separate folder and call it “Archive”. Any content you wish to delete can be moved here.

Note: Remember that moving content from a team folder to a personal folder will delete any of your team members’ links and visit data.
