How to save or share files with other apps on your phone or tablet

The Dropbox mobile app makes it easy for you to share files to other apps on your mobile device or tablet, or save them locally to your device.

To export a file on the Dropbox mobile app with your Android phone:

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  2. Tap the Files tab.
  3. Tap the “ (vertical ellipsis) next to the file you’d like to export.
  4. Save the file locally or share the file with other apps:
    • To save the file locally, tap Save To Device.
    • To export the file to another app, tap Share, tap Send copy of file, then select the app you’d like to open the file with.

To export a file on the Dropbox mobile app on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.
  2. Tap the Files tab.
  3. Tap the “ (ellipsis) next to the file you’d like to export.
  4. Save the file locally or share the file with other apps:
    • To save the file locally, tap Save to device, Save image, or Save video, depending on the file type.
    • To export the file to another app, tap Share, tap Send copy of file, then select the app you’d like to open the file with.
You can also send your file as a link or copy the file link to your clipboard. Learn more about sharing files and folders in the Dropbox mobile app.

Note: Once you export the file to another app, any changes to the file may not be saved back to your Dropbox unless the app specifically integrates with Dropbox.
