How to set up the Dropbox Dash Connector for Smartsheet

The information in this article applies to all Dropbox Dash users.
You can connect your Smartsheet account to Dropbox Dash, so you can access and search all of your Smartsheet content directly within Dash. This requires OAuth authentication to ensure that Dash only retrieves information relevant to the your data, giving you full control over what Dash can access. Dash strictly adheres to the OAuth model, meaning it only accesses the data you specifically permit.
Notes:
- Team members can connect to Dropbox Dash only after their Dash admin approves and enables the integration. After approval, they must grant Dash permission to access their account.
- You must have an active Smartsheet account to connect with Dash.
Integration features
For Smartsheet, Dash captures the following details:
- Sheets: Foundational component of Smartsheet where all the data lives. Dash gathers information about the sheet, such as the title, summary, created, and updated time. This also includes any attachments associated with the sheet.
- Reports: Reports are made up of multiple sheets. Dash gathers information about the reports such as the title, summary, created, and updated time. This also includes any attachments associated with the report.
- Folders: Folders allow you to organize Smartsheet items, such as sheets and reports. Dash gathers the name of the folders for search capabilities.
- Sights/Dashboards: Dashboards are made up widgets and can be used to share information from reports with others. Dash gathers information about the dashboard, such as the title, created, and updated time. It also detects the name the reports used as widgets in order to power search capabilities.
- Templates: Templates can be created from existing sheets to save time on creating new sheets. Dash gathers the name of the templates to power search capabilities.
- Workspaces: Workspaces are shared spaces to collaborate around Smartsheet items, such as sheets and reports. Dash gathers the name of the folders to power search capabilities.
API usage
When connecting Smartsheet, Dash requests the following:
- Retrieve contacts: Allows Dash to retrieve contacts.
- Read events: Allows Dash to read event data. This includes events related to changes or activities within Smartsheet. Examples of events are creation, update, load, and deletion of sheets, reports, dashboards, attachments, users, and more.
- Read sheets, including attachments and comments: Allows Dash to read all sheet data, including comments, attachments and cell data, such as attachments, columnType, cross Sheet References, discussions, filters, filterDefinitions, format, ownerInfo, permalink, and more.
- Read dashboards: Allows Dash to read all sights (Dashboards) data.
- View basic user info, including name and email: Allows Dash to access users’ information for your organization.
- View account users, groups and group members: Allows Dash to access group information for your organization.
How content syncing works
- Content sync begins immediately after establishing a connection to ensure you can start searching right away, prioritizing the most relevant data.
- The Activity feed shows content a user has engaged with through actions such as previewing, uploading, creating, commenting, opening, modifying, sharing, and receiving shared content.
- Incremental sync occurs every 2 hours.
How to connect Smartsheet to Dropbox Dash
- Open Dropbox Dash.
- Click Apps near the bottom of the left sidebar.
- Locate Smartsheet in the apps list.
- Click
(add) on the right to connect the app.
- When prompted to log in to your Smartsheet account, enter your login credentials, or select an account and click Continue.
- Click Allow to continue.
If the connection is successful, you’ll see a confirmation message at the bottom of the page.
How to check your connected apps
- To check your connected apps, open Dropbox Dash.
- Click Apps near the bottom of the left sidebar.
Smartsheet should display in the Added section.
