How to search the web with Dash

The information in this article applies to customers on paid team Dropbox Standard, Advanced, and Business plans.

You can use dash.ai or your Dash browser extension to search the internet for answers to your questions. Web search allows you to find answers from across the web and view them directly in Dash Chat.

Note: Web search is not available through the Dash desktop app. 

How to search the web

Follow these steps to search the web from dash.ai.

  1. Log in to dash.ai using your credentials.
  2. Click  (chat) in the left sidebar to start a new session.
  3. Click All content at the bottom of the text box near the  (send) button
  4. Check “Web content.”
  5. Enter your question in the text box.
  6. Click  (send) to generate your answer.

Follow these steps to search the web from your browser extension.

  1. Click  (Dropbox Dash) to the right of the browser address bar.
    • If you don’t see  (Dropbox Dash), click  (extensions), then select  Dropbox Dash.
  2. Click All content at the bottom of the text box near the  (send) button.
  3. Check “Web content.”
  4. Enter your question in the text box.
  5. Click  (send) to generate your answer.

Dash Chat will generate answers based on its web search. You can ask follow-up questions and refine the answers by typing instructions in the text bar.

Note: Your source will default to “All content” when you start a new chat session.

How does searching web content in Dash work

Dash uses OpenAI’s web search API (gpt-5-mini) to search the internet and summarize relevant web content in your Dash Chat results.

Notes: 

  • The data you send is not used to train or improve OpenAI models.
  • Dropbox doesn’t use your data to build generative AI models. Learn more.
