The information in this article applies to admins on Dropbox Dash for Business.

The Action history page in the admin console shows a complete record of all actions performed in Protect and Control to fix or clean up access issues. It helps you track updates, confirm whether actions succeeded, and troubleshoot errors.

Action history entries can include:

  • Link updates or link-type changes
  • Removal of external, personal, or unnecessary access
  • Cleanup actions on stale or abandoned items
  • Automated or admin-initiated changes
  • Error or Skipped messages
  • CSV exports

You can use the Action history page alongside other Protect and Control tools, such as policies, Overview reports, and Stale access reports, to monitor, enforce, and audit data access across connected content sources.

How to access the Action history

  1. Log in to Dropbox Dash. Learn more about accessing Protect and Control.
  2. Click Action history.
  3. Click the description of any entry in the Action history list.

A drawer will open that shows who performed the action, what changes were made, which items were affected, the completion status, or any error messages.

What you’ll see in Action history

The Action history table shows details about every action taken in Protect and Control to give you a complete view of what’s happened in your account. Along with each action taken, you’ll also see the status, timestamp, and total number of items per action.

The table includes the following columns:

  • Description: What the action was
  • Actor: Who initiated the action
  • Action: The specific type of action, such as add link type, remove access, or stop sharing
  • Status: Whether the action is created, running, or completed
  • Changes: How many access changes were successful
  • Skipped: How many actions were skipped due to expected connected app behavior or limitation
  • Errors: How many unexpected system failures occurred
  • Timestamp: When the action started

Note: The Skipped status won’t be available on actions taken before March 31.

How to view details

  1. Click the description of any entry in the Action history table.
  2. A panel opens on the right side of the page and shows information such as the initiator, action type, criteria, and timestamp.
    •  When you filter by Export to CSV, here is where you’ll find a download link.
  3. Scroll through the panel to see the list of items included in the action and the result for each item, including any error messages. Learn more about error messages.

You can also click Summary to see an overview of the item’s updates.

Filters you can use

Action history includes three filtering options to help you find specific events:

  • Status: Queued, Running, or Completed
  • Action: Add link type, remove link type, add access, remove access, stop sharing, delete item, export to CSV
  • Actor: Filter actions by the admin who initiated them
