What's an X.509 certificate?

An X.509 certificate is needed to authenticate your identity and keep your data safe. 

It usually comes from your identity provider and can come in a variety of formats. Dropbox only accepts .pem, .cer, or .crt

The image to the right is a sample of an encoded certificate.
