How to view your devices and sign out remotely

When you download and sign into the Dropbox desktop app or the Dropbox mobile app on any computer, phone, or tablet, that device is added to your device list in the security page of your account settings. (This was formally called “linking and unlinking” your devices and your accounts).

Note: This only applies if you sign into the desktop or mobile app. If you sign into dropbox.com in a web browser, it doesn’t add that device to your device list.

View your devices

  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials).

  4. Click the Security tab.

Your devices are listed under Devices.

Sign out of a device remotely

You can sign out of any computer, phone, or tablet remotely on dropbox.com.

When you sign out of a computer remotely, the files you synced to the computer will remain on that computer and can still be opened and accessed, (including folders backed up with the computer backup feature). Changes made to them on the device won’t sync to your Dropbox account until you sign back in on that device. Files set to be available online-only, using Smart Sync, can’t be opened or accessed from that device until you sign back in on that device.

  • Note: If a computer is lost or stolen, Dropbox users on Plus, Family, Professional, or Business plans can choose to remotely delete all of their Dropbox files while signing out remotely. (Instructions below).

When you sign out of a phone or tablet remotely, none of your Dropbox files can be opened or accessed from that device until you sign in again, including files you made available offline. This is because, even though those files were made available offline, they were only accessible in the app and not saved directly to your phone or tablet.

To sign out of any device remotely from dropbox.com:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials).
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Your devices are listed under Devices.
  6. Click the trash can icon next to the device you’d like to sign out of remotely.
  7. Click Sign out.
