How to use Dropbox Paper templates

You can use pre-designed Paper templates from Dropbox or create your own.

This article is for Dropbox users on the old release of Dropbox Paper instead of the new 2020 release of Dropbox Paper.
To find out which release you’re using:
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click Create.
- Hover over Document.
- If you see Dropbox Paper in the list of document types, then you’re using the new 2020 release of Dropbox Paper.
- If you don’t see Dropbox Paper in the list of document types, then you’re using the old release of Paper.
If you're on the 2020 release of Dropbox Paper, visit www.dropbox.com/paper/templates to find and use Paper templates pre-designed by Dropbox, and save them to your account on dropbox.com with the file type .papert.
- To edit a template, find it in your account on dropbox.com, open it, and start editing.
- To share a template, share it like you would a regular Dropbox file.
- To delete a template, delete it like you would a regular Dropbox file.
Create a template
- Open the Paper doc that you’d like to turn into a template.
- Click the “…” (ellipses) icon.
- Click Templatize.
Use a template to create a doc
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.
- Click Paper from the menu that appears.
- Click Create with templates.
- Hover over the template you’d like to use, and click Create doc.
Edit a template
Note: You can only edit templates owned by you. To edit a pre-designed Dropbox template, create a doc from it and templatize it to have the option to edit it.
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.
- Click Paper from the menu that appears.
- Click Create with templates.
- Hover over the template you’d like to use, and click the edit icon (it looks like a pencil).
Share a template
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.
- Click Paper from the menu that appears.
- Click Create with templates.
- Hover over the template you’d like to use and click the edit icon (it looks like a pencil).
- Click Share.
Delete a template
- Log in to dropbox.com.
- Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.
- Click Paper from the menu that appears.
- Click Create with templates.
- Hover over the template you’d like to use and click the edit icon (it looks like a pencil).
- Click the “…” (ellipses) icon.
- Click Delete.
