How to link or unlink two Dropbox accounts

Dropbox users on a Dropbox Business plan can link their Dropbox Business account with one Basic, Plus, Family, or Professional account.

Note: Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional accounts can’t be linked with each other. Also, Dropbox Business accounts can’t be linked with other Dropbox Business accounts.

When you link two Dropbox accounts, you can easily switch between them anywhere you use Dropbox without signing out of one and signing into the other every time you want to switch.

You can link your accounts, and switch between them, on and the Dropbox apps on any device. However, you can unlink only on Once you link or unlink two accounts, they become linked or unlinked everywhere you use Dropbox.

Although linking your accounts links them everywhere you use Dropbox, it doesn’t sign you into both accounts on all devices. It only signs you in where you initiated the link. Your other devices will display the option for you to sign into your linked account. After you do, you will remain signed in and can easily switch between your linked accounts.

Personal security when linking a team account

Linking accounts doesn’t share or transfer information between the two accounts. If you link your accounts, and your admin uses the “sign in as a team member” feature to sign into your team member account, they can’t open and access your linked personal account. They can, however, view the name and email address of your linked personal account.

Link your accounts


  1. Sign in to with either account.
  2. Click your avatar (photo or initials) in the top right.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. In the General tab, under Link your personal account or Link your team account, click Link accounts.

On the Dropbox desktop app

  1. Sign in to the desktop app with either account.
  2. Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
  3. Click your avatar (photo or initials) in the top right.
  4. Click Preferences.
  5. Click the Account tab.
  6. Click Add personal account or Add team account.

On the Dropbox mobile app

  1. Open the Dropbox mobile app and sign in to either account.
  2. Open the app settings:
    • On Android, tap the menu icon (horizontal lines) in the top left, then Settings.
    • On iPhone/iPad, tap the account icon (person) in the bottom right, then the gear icon in the top left.
  3. Tap + Add team/personal account.

Unlink your accounts

You can unlink your accounts only on Unlinking your accounts unlinks them everywhere. Across all apps and devices, you’ll be signed out of the last account you added to that app, and you’ll stay signed into the first account.

You can always sign back into your accounts on any device, as you normally would with any unlinked account.

To unlink your accounts:

  1. Sign in to with either account.
  2. Click your avatar (photo or initials) in the top right.
  3. Click on Settings.
  4. In the General tab, under Linked accounts, click Unlink.
  5. Click Yes, unlink to confirm.
