This article describes a feature available to customers on Advanced or Advanced Data Rooms plans.

Screenshot protection is a security setting that helps customers using Dropbox DocSend to monitor and discourage unauthorized screenshots, screen recordings, or content extraction. It can be enabled on DocSend Spaces (data rooms) links and groups.

When enabled, it provides additional protection for sensitive documents by making it difficult to take unauthorized screenshots or recordings. DocSend also recommends that you add custom watermarks to shared links.

Note: Screenshot protection can’t guarantee that users won’t take screenshots, screen recordings, or photos with another device. Users may find ways to bypass this protection.

Who can get screenshot protection?

Screenshot protection is available to users on Advanced and Advanced Data Rooms plans. It can be added to new or existing links. Learn more about DocSend Spaces links and groups.

How does screenshot protection work?

You can choose one of the following options when you enable screenshot protection:

  • Standard: Blacks out a document if the cursor moves off it, making it difficult to take a screenshot
  • Strict: Blacks out everything on the document apart from a horizontal strip under the cursor

While Strict mode provides additional security for documents, it also makes it more difficult for readers to view documents.

What file types are supported?

Screenshot protection can be used with the following file types:

  • .pdf
  • .docx
  • .jpeg
  • .png

It can’t be used on videos or .txt, .csv, .xlsx, .xlsm or .xls files.
