This article applies to customers on Dropbox Plus, Professional, Essentials, Standard, Advanced, Business, or Business Plus plans, and to certain types of admins on Dropbox team accounts.

The number of files you can store in Dropbox is limited by the amount of storage space in your Dropbox account. If your account is running low on storage space, you can:

  • Earn free storage space
  • Upgrade your account
  • Buy additional storage space

If you're not sure how much space you have left, learn how to check your storage space.

How to increase Dropbox storage space for free

Dropbox Basic offers 2 GB of starting storage space for free. To earn free storage space, you can refer your friends, family, and coworkers.

How to upgrade your account

If you have a Dropbox Basic account, you can upgrade to Dropbox Plus to get 2 TB of storage space.

If you have a Plus or Professional Dropbox account and work with two or more coworkers, consider upgrading to a Dropbox team account, which starts with 3 TB of storage space.

How to buy storage space add-ons

Dropbox admins on a Standard, Advanced, Business, or Business Plus account can buy additional storage space in 1 TB increments, up to a maximum of 1,000 TB (including space allocated from users/licenses). This additional storage space is pooled for the whole team.

Plus or Professional users can make a one-time purchase of 1 TB storages.

Notes:

  • Some users may be able to purchase more than one 1 TB storage add-on.
  • Storage space add-ons can only be bought on dropbox.com.
  • If your plan was bought through Google Play or the App Store, you can’t buy storage space add-ons.
  • If you bought your Dropbox plan through a reseller, you can only buy storage packs through your reseller.

To purchase additional storage space as a team admin:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Scroll to Storage.
  4. Click Get more space.
    • To download a storage report before purchasing, click Get storage report.
  5. Follow the on-screen options to either buy additional storage or upgrade your current plan.

To purchase your one time 1 TB storage add-on as a user on Dropbox Plus or Professional:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Go to dropbox.com/manage.
  3. Click Add-ons.
  4. Select the 1 TB storage add-on and purchase.
Your storage add-on takes effect immediately, and you’ll be charged a pro-rated amount until your next billing cycle. You'll then be billed based on your subscription period.

For example, if you're billed yearly, you can only buy yearly storage space add-ons. You can view your storage pack price on your billing page.
