How to check how much Dropbox storage space is left

This article describes a feature available to customers on Dropbox Plus, Professional, Essentials, Standard, Advanced, Business, or Business Plus plans and to certain types of admins on Dropbox team accounts.

This article explains how to check the amount of storage space you have left in your Dropbox account.

How to check your available storage space

Dropbox Basic, Plus, Professional, and Essentials

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Manage account.
  4. Under Subscriptions, check the storage bar. It shows:
    • Regular files: Storage used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Storage used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    • Unused space: Storage not yet in use.
    • Backup: Storage used by Dropbox Backup.
    • Replay: Storage used by Dropbox Replay.

Note: If you’re not redirected to Subscriptions, click the Plan tab.


Dropbox Family

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Click Manage account.
  4. Under Subscriptions, check the storage bar.
  5. Under How much the family is using of the 2 TB, check the storage bar. It shows:
    • Your files
    • Everyone else’s files

       

Dropbox Standard, Business, Advanced, Business Plus, and Enterprise

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Plan.
  5. Check the storage bar. It shows:
    • Regular files: Storage used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Storage used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    • Unused space: Storage not yet in use.
    • Backup: Storage used by Dropbox Backup.
    • Replay: Storage used by Dropbox Replay.

Notes:

  • If a storage limit is set for a team member, they'll see their individual storage limit instead of the team's storage limit.
  • When your team uses more than 50% of its storage, a team storage widget appears in the left sidebar on dropbox.com.

Team admins

If you’re a team admin, you can check your team's storage space in several ways:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. On the dashboard, check Storage under Team usage.

In the admin console, you can also see:

The team storage widget in the left sidebar shows how much storage your team is using, and to take action if your team is running low on space.

You can use the Manage storage cleanup tool to manage storage:

  1. Click ☑ (more options) next to the folder you want to manage.
  2. Click More.
  3. Click Manage storage.
  4. Filter the content by Largest or Last Activity.
  5. Hover over the content you want to manage:
    • To delete it, click Delete.
    • To open it in a new tab, click ☑ (open).

The team storage report shows what’s using your team’s storage space, including:

  • Team folders and eligible team subfolders
  • Private folders from active, suspended, or removed members
  • Archived and app-created folders
  • A high-level view of shared folders
  • Usage from Dropbox Replay and Backup, if applicable

Learn how to create a team storage report.

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Products, click the dropdown next to Dropbox.
  4. Click Content.
  5. Click Export team folders report.
  6. Click Start export.
  7. Wait for the CSV file to be generated.
  8. Open the report from your admin’s Dropbox Business Reports folder.

The shared folders report includes:

  • Team members who have shared folders mounted, including mount paths.
  • Team members and eligible external users who can access folders.
  • Last modified dates.
  • Whether a folder is internal, external, or orphaned.

To access the shared folders report:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Products, click the dropdown next to Dropbox.
  4. Click Content.
  5. Click Export shared folders report.
  6. Click Start export.
  7. Wait for the CSV file to be generated.
  8. Open the report from your admin’s Dropbox Business Reports folder.

Note: Shared folders that aren’t joined don’t count towards your used storage space.

How to check the free storage space you've earned

This section applies to Dropbox Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional users only.

You can earn free space in your Dropbox account by referring your friends, family, and coworkers. 

To check much storage space you've earned:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
    • If you've connected a personal and work account, select which account you'd like to see settings for.
  4. Click the Refer a friend tab. 
  5. Go to Total bonus space earned.
