How to check how much Dropbox storage space is left

This article describes a feature available to customers on Dropbox Plus, Professional, Essentials, Standard, Advanced, Business, or Business Plus plans and to certain types of admins on Dropbox team accounts.

This article explains how to check the amount of storage space you have left in your Dropbox account.

The fastest way to check how much storage space you have left in your Dropbox account is in the Account section of dropbox.com:

When the migration starts, cloud files will immediately show the Dropbox sync icons. Throughout the process, all files and folders that are being migrated will show the syncing status icon. While the migration runs in the background, you’ll be able to see the sync status on your system tray.

How to opt out of the Dropbox for Windows update

If you don’t want to use the Dropbox for Windows update at this time, you can opt out through your Advanced settings page. To do this:

  1. Log out of the Dropbox desktop app.
  2. Log back into the Dropbox desktop app.
  3. Click Open Dropbox.
  4. Make your selections on the onboarding screens.
  5. When the setup is finished, click Advanced settings from the final screen.
  6. Check the Opt out checkbox under Dropbox for Windows updates.

How to check your account space

To check your available storage space:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Manage account.
  4. Click Subscriptions in the left sidebar.
  5. Check the storage bar at the bottom of the page. This shows:

    • Regular files: Space used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Space used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    • Backup: Space used by Dropbox Backup.
    •  Replay: Space used by Dropbox Replay.
    • Unused space: Space not yet in use.

Notes:

  • Shared folders that aren't joined don't count towards your used space.
  • Family plans show a bar of all the space your family is using, and you can click the arrow next to Everyone else’s files to see how much storage space each member is using.

To check your available space:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the bottom-left corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Plan.
  5. Check the storage bar at the bottom of the page. This shows:
    • Regular files: Space used by files and folders in your account that aren’t shared.
    • Shared files: Space used by shared files and folders that you’ve joined.
    •  Replay: Space used by Dropbox Replay.
    • Unused space: Space not yet in use.

Note: Shared folders that aren’t joined don’t count towards your used space.

If you’re a team admin:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com using your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. On the dashboard, check Storage under Team usage.

How to see the free space you've earned

This section applies to Dropbox Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional users only.

You can earn free space in your Dropbox account by referring your friends, family, and coworkers

 

To see how much space you've already earned, and get more:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
    • If you've connected a personal and work account, select which account you'd like to see settings for.
  4. Click the Refer a friend tab and scroll down to Total bonus space earned.

 

You’ll see a number of total MB earned and a list of referrals you sent that earned you extra storage space. Learn how to earn free extra storage when you invite your friends to try Dropbox.
