How to join a Dropbox Dash team account

This article describes a feature available to all Dropbox Dash customers.

If you’ve been invited to join a Dropbox Dash team, follow the steps below to add your apps, review the Privacy Policy, and access the Dash start page.

How to join a Dash team from an email invite

When an admin of a Dropbox Dash team account invites you to join their team, you’ll receive the invite by email. The process to join that team account is different depending on whether you have an existing Dropbox account or not. Click the tab below that best matches your experience.

If you don’t have an existing Dropbox account or if you’re joining the Dropbox Dash team with a different email address, you can join the Dash team account by doing the following:

  1. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Click  (add) next to any apps you’d like to add to Dash, then click Continue.
  4. Add the Dash extension to your browser, if you’d like, or click Skip.

You’ve successfully joined a Dropbox Dash team and can start exploring Dash.

If you already have a Dropbox account but want to join a Dash team account that does not include Dropbox access, you'll either need to create a new account for your Dropbox content, or, if you existing account is a Basic account, delete your account.

Note: If you’re joining a Dash team account that includes Dropbox access, you won’t need to create a separate Dropbox account.

To create a new Dropbox account for your content:
  1. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  2. Enter your Dropbox account email and click Continue.
  3. Review the information on the Next steps page, then click Continue.
  4. Enter a new email and password to use with your Dropbox account, then click Agree and sign up.
  5. Navigate to your email inbox and open the verification email.
  6. Click Go to Dash to verify your new email address for Dropbox.

You’ll join the Dropbox Dash team with the email address currently associated with your Dropbox account. The data from your existing Dropbox account will be transferred to the new account you’ve created.

 

 

To delete your Basic account:

 

  1. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  2. Check the box next to Remove personal Dropbox and join the team.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Type “permanently delete” into the text box when prompted.
    • You can click the link above this text box to go to your Dropbox account and download any files you’d like to keep.
  5. Click Delete and join.

 

 You’ll join the Dash team with the email address that was connected to your Dropbox Basic account. Any files and folders stored in your existing Dropbox account will be deleted.

Note: Dropbox Replay, Transfer, and Sign files won’t be deleted if you select this option, but they won’t be accessible once your account is deleted.

If you’re joining a Dash team that includes Dropbox access, you may be able to join the team using a different email address than the one to which the invitation was sent, as long as:

 

  • You have an existing Dropbox account.
  • The invitation was sent to an email address outside of your company domain.

 

To join the team using a different email address:

 

  1. Make sure you’re signed into your existing Dropbox account.
  2. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  3. Enter the email address you’d like to use to join the Dash team.
  4. Enter your first and last name.
  5. Enter a password for your account.
  6. Click Agree and sign up.
  7. Navigate to your email inbox and open the verification email.
  8. Click Go to Dash to verify your new email address for Dropbox.

 

If you’re not able to join the team with a different email address, you can:

 

  • Create a new Dropbox account for your personal content.
  • Merge your existing Dropbox content with the team’s content.

 

To create a new account:

 

  1. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  2. Enter the email address you’d like to use for your new account.
  3. Enter your first and last name.
  4. Enter a password for your account.
  5. Click Agree and sign up.
  6. Navigate to your email inbox and open the verification email.
  7. Click Go to Dash.

 

Your existing content will now be on your new account, and you’ll join the Dash team with the email the invitation was sent to.

 

To merge your existing account with the team’s account:

 

  1. Open the invite email and click Accept Invite.
  2. Click Join with [your email].
  3. Click Give access and continue.
  4. Click Go to Dash.

 

Your existing files and folders will be added to your team member folder on your team’s Dropbox account.

Note: If you choose to merge your account with the team account, your team admin will be able to access the content in your team member folder. Learn more about admin access to your team folder.
