This article describes features available to all Dropbox Dash customers.
You can create Stacks on dash.ai, by using the desktop app, or through the browser extension.
To create a Stack on dash.ai:
Note: You can also duplicate or archive a Stack by clicking More options (more options), then Duplicate stack or Archive Stack. You can find archived Stacks in the Archived tab on the Stacks page.
You can also quickly create a Stack from the top search results for any term you search on Dash.
To create a Stack from your search results:
You can open your new Stack by clicking Open Stack in the search bar, or by clicking ☑ Stacks in the left sidebar. You can view your Stack as a list or a grid, and change your view by clicking View under the title of the Stack and selecting Grid or List from the dropdown.
To create a Stack on the Dash desktop app:
You’ll see a pop up notifying you that a new Stack item has been added.
To create a Stack with the Dash browser extension:
This will add the page you currently have open to the new Stack.
Note: Creating Stacks on dropbox.com is currently a beta feature, and may not be available on your Dropbox account.
To quickly create a Stack from the contents of a folder:
Your new Stack will have the same name as the folder it was created from. You can add additional content by clicking ☑ Add below the title of your Stack.
Tip: Once you create a Stack, you can pin it by clicking More options (more options), then Pin Pin Stack to make it easier to access. Pinned Stacks will appear at the top of your start page, as well as at the top of the Stacks page. You can also reorder pinned Stacks by dragging and dropping them to your preferred order.
You can add a group of tabs directly to a Stack using the Dropbox Dash browser extension.
To do so:
A tab will open with your new Stack.
Notes:
You can organize the items in individual Stacks by using sections to group related content.
To add a section to a Stack on dash.ai:
You can remove or rename sections by clicking ☑ (more options) next to the section, then selecting ☑ Remove section or ☑ Rename section. You can also rearrange items within the stack or section by dragging and dropping them into the order you’d like them.
Adding a folder to your stack will automatically create a new section with the same name as the added folder.
To create a section with a folder:
The new section will contain each item from the folder.
Sections can be viewed as a grid or as a list. To change this view:
To add a section to a Stack on the Dash desktop app:
You can remove or rename sections by clicking ☑ (more options) next to the section, then selecting ☑ Remove section or ☑ Rename section.
To add an item to a section using the Dash browser extension:
The item will now be in the section you’ve selected.
Note: You can also add items to your Stack from the Recommended section by clicking Add (add) next to the suggested item.
How to add an item directly to a section
You can add items directly into sections without needing to add them to a Stack first.
To add a new item directly to a section on dash.ai:
The item will now be added to that section of your chosen Stack.
To add a new item directly to a section on the Dash desktop app:
You can share your Stacks both inside and outside your organization. You can do so by adding people directly through their email, or by copying a link to the Stack and pasting it where you’d like to share the Stack.
Note: Adding someone to a Stack with their name or email will automatically give that person access to any Dropbox files or folders in the Stack. They’ll also have access to any files and folders added to the Stack after it’s been shared with them. If you share a Stack using a link, the existing Dropbox file and folder permissions will remain the same.
To add people to a Stack on dash.ai:
You can also click Copy link before entering a name or email address, to copy and paste a link to the Stack wherever you wish.
To add people to a Stack on the Dash desktop app:
To add people to a Stack on dropbox.com:
You can also click Copy link before entering a name or email address to copy and paste a link to the Stack wherever you wish.
To share a Stack on an Android device:
From here you can copy a link to the Stack by tapping (copy) next to the link, or select the app you’d like to use to share the link directly.
To share a Stack on an iOS device:
From here you can select the app you’d like to use to share a link directly, a contact you’d like to send the Stack to, or copy a link to the Stack by tapping Copy.
Stack permissions allow you to control who can view or edit a stack. As the owner of a Stack, you can change these permissions at any time.
As an admin, you can pin Stacks to your team members’ start pages, allowing you to share resources to your whole team quickly and easily.
The Stack will be visible to everyone on your team.
You can quickly generate insights, ask questions, and create summaries of the information in your Stacks.
To ask a question about one of your stacks:
Once your answer appears, you can ask follow-up questions by entering your query in the text box and clicking (send).
Note: This feature uses third-party generative AI to create content. Your data is never used to train their internal models, and is deleted from third-party servers within 30 days. Learn more about Dropbox AI and your privacy.
If you can edit a Stack, you can leave a comment on any item that’s part of that Stack, to add context or direct other team members to specific items.
To comment on a Stack:
You can delete or edit your comments by clicking Delete or Edit below the comment you’d like to change.
Note: Only the author of a comment, or the owner of the Stack, can delete comments.
If you’re not an admin, you can set link restrictions for individual folders that you own.
To do this:

To turn notifications for stack activity on or off:
If you’ve installed the Dropbox Dash browser extension, you’ll also receive a push notification in your browser whenever someone shares a Stack with you. Clicking this notification will open the Stack that’s been shared in a new tab.
To turn this notification on or off:
Note: The push notifications within your browser will comply with your device’s notification settings and won’t appear if you’ve activated Do Not Disturb mode.
