A custom subdomain gives an eligible Dropbox team a team-specific web address. For example, your team could use acme.app.dropbox.com.

External organizations can add your custom subdomain to their allowlist while restricting www.dropbox.com.

Who can use a custom subdomain

Custom subdomains are currently available in beta for selected Dropbox Enterprise teams.. Dropbox determines teams eligiblity during this limited release. Each eligible team can have one custom subdomain.

Note: During the beta, Dropbox will fill out the custom subdomain for your team.

Custom subdomain requirements

When you create a custom subdomain, choose a name that:

  • Contains 3-20 letters or numbers.
  • Uses only the letters a-z and numbers 0-9.
  • Doesn’t contain spaces, hyphens, underscores, periods, punctuation, or special characters.
  • Not reserved by Dropbox.
  • Not already used by another Dropbox team.

Capital letters are automatically changed to lowercase. For example, ACME becomes acme.

If the subdomain doesn’t meet these requirements or isn’t available, you can’t complete the setup.

How to check your custom subdomain

To check your custom subdomain:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
  2. Click Admin console in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Team, click Settings.
  4. Scroll to Custom Team Subdomain.

How to create shared links with a custom subdomain

After you set up a custom subdomain, team members can use it for supported shared links. Existing access and permission settings still apply to files and folders shared with these links.

If a shared link doesn’t use your custom subdomain, contact your team admin. They can confirm whether the custom subdomain was set up before the link was created.

How external organizations can use your custom subdomain

External organizations can add your team-specific domain to their allowlist while restricting www.dropbox.com.

Some Dropbox services still use shared Dropbox domains. These include APIs, file delivery, assets, telemetry, and regional services. A custom subdomain doesn’t provide complete domain isolation or prevent uploads to other Dropbox accounts.

How to change a custom subdomain

An eligible team can have only one custom subdomain at a time. To use a different subdomain, you must first revoke the existing one. Contact Dropbox support for help revoking a custom subdomain.

After it’s revoked, an authorized team admin can create a different available subdomain.
