This article describes a feature available to Dropbox Sign Web App, API Essential, Standard, and Premium users.

With Dropbox Sign, you can control how signatures appear in your documents by adding advanced signature details and a signature frame.

Advanced signature details add information like the signer’s name, date, and timestamp directly to each signature. The signature frame adds a visible border around each signature to show that the document was digitally signed.

These features help you meet internal standards or compliance requirements and make signatures easier to review.

How to enable advanced signature details

To enable advanced signature details in Dropbox Sign:

  1. Log in to your Dropbox Sign account.
  2. Hover over your initials in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Profile.
  5. Check the Advanced signature details checkbox.
  6. Click Save.

When advanced signature details are enabled:

  • The signer’s name, date, and time are automatically added to each signature block.
  • The timestamp appears below the signature, to the right of the signer’s name.
  • The format is: MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm am/pm TZ (time zone), for example: 03/22/2025 09:13 am PST.

Notes:

  • Advanced signature details are set to off by default. When advanced signature details are set to off, signatures won’t display the signer’s name, date, or time within the signature block.
  • If a document contains multiple signature fields, the most recent timestamp is applied to all of them.
  • Advanced signature details can be used together with the signature frame or on their own. If both settings are enabled, both visual elements will appear on the signed document.

How to enable the signature frame

To enable the signature frame in Dropbox Sign:

  1. Log in to your Dropbox Sign account.
  2. Hover over your initials in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Profile.
  5. Check the Signature frame checkbox.
  6. Click Save.

Important: The signature frame will be applied to future documents only.

When the signature frame is enabled:

  • A box appears around each signature in the document.
  • The frame includes the standardized text “Digitally signed by:”.
  • The signature frame is visible immediately after signing and in the final document.
