How to view metadata for a file in Dropbox

This feature is available to all Dropbox users on dropbox.com.

Metadata is information you can see about a file. It includes information like the date your file was created and the size of the file.

To see metadata about a folder:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Hover over the folder and click “” (vertical ellipsis).
  3. Click Folder info.
     

To see metadata about a file:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click the name of the file you’d like to see information about. 
    • If you’ve opened the preview in Full screen, click File.
  3. Click File info.
    • If you’ve opened the preview in Full screen, click Info.

In the details pane, you’ll see different types of information depending on the type of file you’re previewing. All files display the following metadata:

  • The location of the file (Saved in)
  • The size of the file in bytes (Size)
  • When the file was last modified (Modified
  • The type of file (Type)
