How to connect the Dropbox desktop app to a proxy server

You can connect the Dropbox desktop app to a proxy server, in your desktop app preferences

Windows

To connect the Dropbox desktop app to a proxy server on a Windows computer: 

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click the Network tab.
  5. Choose your preferred proxy setting:
    • If you’d like Dropbox to automatically detect proxy settings or use the default settings, ensure the Custom Proxy settings toggle is off
    • If you’d like to enter the proxy settings yourself, toggle the Custom proxy settings on, and then follow these steps:
      • In the Proxy setting menu:
        1. Select No proxy to ignore all proxy servers
        2. Select Manual to connect to a new proxy server and enter the server details in the remaining fields.
        • Note: Enabling Proxy server requires a password.

Mac

To connect the Dropbox desktop app to a proxy server on a Mac computer:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
  2. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click the Network tab.
  5. Choose your preferred proxy setting:
    • If you’d like Dropbox to automatically detect proxy settings or use the default settings, ensure the Custom Proxy settings toggle is off
    • If you’d like to enter the proxy settings yourself, toggle the Custom proxy settings on, and then follow these steps:
