Search images in Dropbox

This feature is only available to Dropbox Professional and Dropbox Business users.

You can search images in your Dropbox account based on the content in them. For example, you can search for “clothing” to see all images of clothing (and images related to clothing) in your Dropbox account—even if “clothing” isn’t in the file name.

To search images on dropbox.com or the Dropbox desktop app:

  1. Sign in to dropbox.com or open the desktop app.
  2. Type what you want to search for into the search bar (where it says Search your content).
  3. Press Enter on your keyboard.
  4. Click the Images tab.

You can search the following image file types:

  • .jpg
  • .jpeg
  • .png
  • .gif

What languages can I search images in?

Your Dropbox account must be set to the language you’re searching in, except for English searches, which work with any language setting.

  • Note: Image search may not work as expected (in English) if your Dropbox account is set to Chinese, Taiwan, Korean, Malaysian, or Thai

Images can be searched in the following languages:

  • English
  • Japanese
  • French
  • Spanish
  • German
  • Swedish
  • Danish

How does image search work?

Similar to text content search, when you upload a supported image filetype, content is identified in the image. When you search a keyword, results are displayed that contain content matching that keyword, or related to that keyword. This information is only used to improve retrieval of files in your account.
