How to manage apps for your Dropbox team accounts
Updated Jan 25, 2024
As a Dropbox team admin, you can manage apps for your team from the App permissions page of the admin console. From here, you can block or allow apps and manage team-wide preferences for specific apps.
Block apps
You can choose to block your team from connecting to any apps or just block them from connecting to specific apps.
Notes:
- Blocking apps doesn’t disconnect team members who are already connected to an app.
- If you block apps, team members will still be able to view apps in the App Center but not connect to them.
- Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar and Contacts are allowed by default and can’t be blocked, even if you choose to block your team from connecting to any apps.
- If your team is using the old release of Dropbox Paper, follow the instructions in this article to block or allow Dropbox Paper. If your team is using the 2020 release of Dropbox Paper, follow the instructions below.
To block your team from connecting to any apps:
- Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
- Click Admin console.
- Click Settings.
- Click App permissions under Apps.
- Click the dropdown menu below Default permission for apps listed in App Center, and select Block.
To block your team from connecting to specific apps:
- Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
- Click Admin console.
- Click Settings.
- Click App permissions under Apps.
- Click the checkbox next to the app(s) you’d like to turn on or off.
- Click Block.
Manage custom apps
To manage apps that aren’t available in the App Center:
- Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
- Click Admin console.
- Click Settings.
- Click App permissions under Apps.
- Click the Other apps tab.
- Click Add exception.
- Enter the app key or app ID.
- If you don't know the app key or app ID, follow the instructions below to find it.
- Click Next.
- Click Allow or Block.
- Click Add.
There are three ways to find the app key or app ID:
- Team members can find the app ID when they attempt to connect to an app. The app ID will be listed on the app authorization page with the prefix "dbaid."
- Admins can find the app ID in the Activity page of the admin console. From here, search for Failed to connect app for member in the Activities field. The app ID will be listed in the Activity column below.
- App owners can find the app key by looking at the app’s page in the App Console.
Manage app preferences
Some apps have additional preferences.
To manage app preferences:
- Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
- Click Admin console.
- Click Settings.
- Click App permissions under Apps.
- Click Edit preferences next to the app(s) you’d like to edit.
- Make your edits, and click Save when you’re finished.
