How to store shortcuts to webpages in your Dropbox folder

Updated Nov 21, 2023
You can store a shortcut to a webpage in a Dropbox folder, just like you would store a file. Shortcuts are stored with the file extension .web and are represented by a globe icon. Shortcuts open in your default web browser.

Note: In the Dropbox mobile app, you can open shortcuts, but you can’t create them.

Create a shortcut in Dropbox

  1. Log in to
  2. Navigate to the folder you’d like to store your shortcut in.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Hover over More and click Shortcut.
  5. Enter the URL and Name for your shortcut.
  6. Click Create.

Rename, move, copy, or delete a shortcut

You can rename, move, copy, or delete a shortcut exactly the same way you would a regular file. However, you can’t edit the URL itself.

Can I share a shortcut?

You can’t share a .web shortcut you’ve stored in Dropbox. Instead, you would send the URL itself.

You can, however, share the folder the shortcut is stored in. The shortcut will open for anyone you share the folder with.
