How to take and edit screenshots with Dropbox Capture

You can use Dropbox Capture to take screenshots, then mark them up and share them.

How to save screenshots with Dropbox Capture

When you install the Dropbox Capture app, you’ll be prompted to Automatically save OS screenshots to Dropbox Capture. This automatically saves any screenshots you take on your computer to Dropbox Capture.

You can turn this feature on or off at anytime. To do so: 

  1. Open the Dropbox Capture desktop app. 
  2. Click “” (vertical ellipsis) in the upper right.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Toggle Automatically save OS screenshots

How to take a screenshot

If you choose to Automatically save OS screenshots, any screenshots you take with your computer’s built-in functionality will save to Dropbox Capture. If you don’t choose this option, you can take screenshots using the Dropbox Capture app.

To take a screenshot using Dropbox Capture:

  1. Open the Dropbox Capture desktop app.
  2. Click Screenshot.
  3. Choose which part of your screen you’d like to capture:
    • Click once to screenshot of your entire screen.
    • Click and drag to screenshot a desired area of your screen.
    • Press the spacebar to screenshot a specific image.

A copy of your image will be copied to the clipboard and be saved to the “Capture” folder of your Dropbox account.

To copy a link to the screenshot: 

  1. Open the Dropbox Capture desktop app.
  2. Click “” (vertical ellipsis) in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Set When screenshot is ready to Copy Link.

Immediately after taking a screenshot, you’ll see a notification appear in the bottom-right corner of your screen. From this notification, you can:

  • Preview
  • Markup
  • Delete

From the markup window, you can:

  • Add text
  • Draw
  • Add lines and shapes
  • Crop
  • Blur
  • Highlight
  • Rename
  • Add Emoji images

When you save the marked up image, depending on your When screenshot is ready setting, it will copy its link or image to your clipboard and replace the original screenshot in the “Capture” folder of your Dropbox account.
