Password control for Dropbox business teams
Password control helps team admins keep their Dropbox business account secure by requiring team members to set strong passwords. Password control is available to Dropbox business teams on Education, Advanced, or Enterprise plans.
To turn on password control:
- Log in to dropbox.com with your admin credentials.
- Click Admin Console.
- Click Settings.
- Click Passwords.
- Below Password Control, select Very strong.
Changing the password strength requires all team members to create new passwords that meet the password control setting. Team members will be notified via email, and logged out of any web sessions. They're required to create new passwords when they log in.
Note: Team members remain logged in to any devices linked to their accounts.
The "Moderate" and "Very strong" password settings
Dropbox built a tool to recognize password strength. The tool compares passwords against a database of words, names, patterns, and numbers that are commonly used as passwords. If the password that a user tries to enter is common, the tool prompts them to enter something more unique and difficult to guess.
Using the Very strong setting ensures the highest level of account security for teams.
