How to turn commenting off for a file

The information in this article applies to all Dropbox customers.

You can disable comments on a file after you’ve shared it with other people.

 To disable comments on a file:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click the name of the file you want to disable comments on.
    • Make sure you have your previews set to Full screen
  3. Click Comments in the right sidebar.
    • If the right sidebar isn’t open, click the arrow or Comments button on the top-right.
  4. Click “" (ellipsis) in the comments window.
  5. Click Disable comments.


To enable comments again, you can follow the same steps as above, then click Enable comments.

Admins: How to disable comments for a Dropbox team

If you’re a team admin, you can disable comments for your Dropbox team:

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Admin console.
  3. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
  4. Under Content, click Commenting.
  5. Toggle Commenting to Off.

Notes: 

  • This setting doesn’t apply to Send and track content.
  • If comments are enabled, members of your team can disable comments on specific files.
