There are two ways to remove a shared folder from your Dropbox account:

  • Temporarily leave the folder (with the option to join back later)
  • Permanently leave the folder

If you’re the owner of a shared folder and want to remove access, learn how to remove specific members or unshare the folder.

How to temporarily leave a folder

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Hover over the name of the folder you’d like to remove.
  3. Click the "..." (ellipsis).
  4. Click Delete.

How to permanently leave a folder

  1. Log in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click Shared in the left sidebar.
  3. Under Folders, click the more (more options) next to the folder you'd like to leave.
  4. Select Remove from Dropbox.
  5. Next to the same folder, click the "..." (ellipsis) again and then click Remove me.
  6. Confirm by clicking Remove my access in the pop-up window.

If you leave a folder accidentally, you'll need to ask the owner of the shared folder to invite you again.

Note: After you leave a folder, its contents no longer count toward your Dropbox storage quota.

What if I'm not seeing the shared folder options window?

If the shared folder options window fails to pop up in your browser, you may be experiencing an issue caused by a third-party browser extension or an add-on (such as a pop-up or ad blocker).

If this happens, temporarily disable any browser extensions or add-ons that are running. Once you remove your access to a shared folder or update other settings, you can re-enable these browser extensions.

If you'd like to continue using the extension, you may be able to create an exception for Dropbox, or whitelist https://www.dropbox.com.

However, not all extensions support this functionality.
