How to log into or out of your Dropbox account
The information in this article applies to all Dropbox customers.
To store files in Dropbox, you need to be logged in. If you don’t have an account yet, learn how to create a Dropbox account.
If you’ve forgotten your Dropbox password, you can change or reset your password to regain access to your account.
Or, if you know your Dropbox password but don’t have access to the associated email address, log in to Dropbox then immediately change your email address.
How to log in to your Dropbox account
After you install the Dropbox desktop app, you’ll be prompted to log in if you’re not already logged in on dropbox.com. You can log in with your email and password, Google, or Apple. If you don’t have an account yet, click Sign up instead.
If you’re logged into one account and have a linked account you’d like to log into:
- Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
- Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Account tab. Your linked account email will be displayed.
- Next to your linked account, click Sign in.

If you’re logged into one account and have a linked account you’d like to log into:
- Open the Dropbox mobile app.
- Open your app settings. To do so:
- On Android, tap Account at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Settings.
- On iPhone/iPad, tap the avatar (person icon) in the bottom right, and then tap the up and down arrows next to your email to switch to your linked account.
- Under your linked account, tap Sign in.
How to log out of your Dropbox account
- Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
- Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner.
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Account tab.
- Click Sign out.
- If you have linked accounts, click Sign out next to the account you’d like to log out of. The accounts will remain linked and the other account will stay logged in.
- Click Sign out again to confirm.
- Open the Dropbox mobile app.
- Open your app settings. To do so:
- On Android, tap Account at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Settings.
- On iPhone/iPad, tap the avatar (person icon) in the bottom right.
- If you have linked accounts, you must be in the mobile settings of the account you’d like to log out of. If not, switch accounts.
- Tap Sign out from this Dropbox.
